Probably the main reason that I came to Rolles Academy was to bring a bit of camaraderie to my every day life, as well as to alleviate my feeling of homesickness, as I am someone from Rio de Janeiro/Brazil and living a while in New Jersey. All of these reasons would be undoubtedly enough to justify my happiness of attending such amazing BJJ school, but to make the things even better, it is way more than that. Rolles Gracie is not only the BJJ Professor, but a wonderful person. The Rolles Gracie academy cares about the fundamentals, basic and advanced BJJ techniques are taken very seriously there. It makes sense, as Rolles is a grandson of the founders of BJJ, the Grand Masters Carlos and Helio Gracie, and son of THE legend: Rolls Gracie. The environment is amazing, super friendly, as well as the infra-structrure super clean with windows averywhere - it is very bright. Finally, it is worth mentioning Professor Rodolfo, who is also a great asset for the school. Also, Sean! The BJJ is not only a physical but very mental martial art. It is like a physical chess, and there is no better thing than learning from places so unique like the Rolles Gracie Academy. Attending the classes is like therapy. It will bring confidence for you and your kids, as well as making your life more joyful. I strongly...
Read moreGreat place to bring your kid! I have been bringing my son for a few months and he loves it. Great environment with a great staff and great instructors. I have one gripe (sometimes) during the classes though when I watch as a parent and as a guy that coached youth sports for 15+ years I hate to watch a kid not participate in a drill or activity cause time ran out. For example one class the last 10 minutes of a 30 minute class 10 kids were lined up again the wall watching 2 kids participate in a drill ran by 2 instructors, 10 minutes went by and probably 6 kids participated and when it got to the 30 minutes mark the class ended and 4 kids didn’t participate… I feel like if you have 2 instructors why can’t 2 sets of 2 kids participate at the same time so more kids involved instead of watching and Im sitting there watching my son play footsies with another kid for a third of the class. Anyway still a great place and class overall to bring your kid and still giving it 5 stars and would definitely recommend it to another parent for...
Read moreI cannot be happier with Rolles Gracie. My 12 year old son has not really taken to team sports. BJJ seems to give him enough interaction to keep social, but the success / failure at the end of the day is all him. It is showing him that he must develop a drive in order to succeed. There is constant instruction or practice happening during class, which helps to keep him focused. The teachers are great. They demonstrate everything well and have constant repetition so that there is no confusion. They interact with the kids to ensure they understand and implement the move with the correct form. While the teachers are correcting, they also praise the kids and let them know when they do something well. I also love that they reward dedicated students by having them lead the rest of the class in warm ups and to assist in the demonstrations. I feel like they structure the class to continually build confidence along with the physical capabilities. Overall my son and I are happy with the program and are glad we...
