I highly recommend the House of Trains for your model railroading requirements. 5-stars!
My recent order with them, although delayed enroute by the US Postal Service to my location in Australia, was sent promptly and was packed with much care and love.
The friendly follow-up messages from the proprietor of the House of Trans, Marci, was pleasantly unexpected, and was a nice personal touch to an online order from the other side of the world. When the USPS delayed the delivery of the package enroute, Marci followed up with the USPS and provided updates with regards to the delay.
The order was well packed, and it was apparent that much care was taken to ensure the items ordered would be protected during delivery.
I have derived much pleasure from the items I have ordered, and was most satisfied with the shopping experience - it isn't often that I give a full 5-stars in a review, but this recent shopping experience is one of those rare times that I enthusiastically will give 5-stars. I really do highly recommend the House of Trains.

The detail was pretty comparable; Athearn was a little better in some regards while Atlas was better in others. But the thing that was way ahead was the drive; smooth, quiet, responsive and a nice weight to it. And of course nobody packs their Engines as good as Athearn. A light plastic tissue surrounds the engine, which fits into a cradle with contact point cushions, which goes into a plastic sleeve which goes into a foam rubber encasement and then into a rigid box. It’s no wonder it’s a little more expensive than...
