This is the first time that I have ever been in a Chamberlin's Natural Foods store even though we have both been in the area since the late 1960s (the store has been around for longer). You really would have thought that with a name like Chamberlin (notice the correct spelling, not the incorrect way with the 'a' towards the end like so many others spell it) I would have checked it out already. I wanted to go in and act like the owner holding my driver's license in my hand to prove my last name. But I figured it would have been faster for them to call 911 than for me to ask for free samples. I had not gone in previously because it was known as a 'health food store'. Where's the fun in that? A friend had asked for a ride to the Herndon Plaza. I wanted to get out of my same four walls so I took him. Chamberlin’s is in the plaza. I was finally going to go into one. I was thirsty and was just wanted a soda. WRONG! I was walking up and down the aisles looking at stuff when I realized I was now carrying things. I went and got one of those shopping baskets and placed the items in it. I then went back to retrieve the first few items. Still nothing to drink I then saw the cooler in the back left hand side. I went over there (by now I knew that either a Coke or Pepsi would never be found in this store). I did find bottles of water, in fact there were two different brands with cases stacked on the floor. One of the two had a sign listing the price at $1.49. There were five or six loose 1-liter bottles laying on top of the sealed cases. The other one had a sign showing the price at $2.49, but there were no loose bottles. The sign had no more information. I was guessing the one priced at $1.49 was for the 1-liter bottle. Could the other one be priced at $2.49 for the case the way it is displayed. Just then an employee was walking by, so I stopped her and asked about the price. She burst my bubble and told me it would be per 1-liter.she saw that I had a beer in my basket and commented on the other styles from Samuel Smith. I actually had the Hard Pear Cider and she recommended the Chocolate Stout and the Oatmeal Stout. She warned me a few times that the two stouts are on the sweet side. I did find a couple of other things I had not seen before so I added them to my collection in the basket. At the register I was asked if I belonged to their rewards program. The cashier told me the benefits as well as the cost ($0.00). She began creating my account. I have found that it is much easier to present my driver's license when asked for my name and address I was doing the same here and asked if there was a family discount (the same last name, like I mentioned). Her response was to ask if I was related (No), and then she added that the grandson is in town right now. All in all it was a nice little store with fresh vegetables, bulk bins containing fruits, nuts, and grains, spices, candies, snack chips, pantry staples, beer and more. Yes the prices might be a little higher than at the chain grocery stores, but if you are unable to find a unique specialty ingredient, check out Chamberlin's...

Read moreI patronized the East Colonial location on Saturday. I usually shop online for my oils and herbs but I like to support local businesses whenever possible. My car was in the shop so I was using public transportation to work. On my journey, I saw Chamberlin's and stopped in. The location was neat, clean, and had just about everything I needed. However, I noticed the associate with green hair watching me lol. As if people of color did not know about holistic healing before the trend started lol and FYI a lot of us don't steal. Anyways after picking up on her behavior, I took extra long making my selections to mess with her; bending down, acting indecisive, and clueless. Poor soul was even peeping around shelving and emptied an empty trash can to watch me. Not only could the cashier see me (the location wasn't busy) but I was also wearing my company's t- shirt. I give Chamberlin's 2 stars because the manager was friendly and the availability of products. I spent over $100 at this location but sadly because of the floor associate, I will not visit any of Chamberlin's locations and will share my experience with others. Peace...
