If it was possible to give this unprofessional and disgusting school negative stars, I would in a heartbeat. I spent a year in the Barbering/ Cosmetology program and have experienced the most unstable, degrading, emotionally draining, unprofessional, shady, and hypocritical "education" program.
Administration vocalizes their feelings that students of the cosmetology and Barbering program are incompetent, while doing nothing to listen to student complaints and concerns. I have wasted time, energy, money, and my mental stability trying to defend myself and other students in this program. Not one person who took our money and sits in the front office does their job, and are definitely bothered (and show it) when you ask for their assistance or for simple paperwork.
Throughout the program, I have been through a total of 6 different instructors (that I can recall), creating an unstable environment, having to learn material over and over again just to catch up with the new instructor and their own ways of doing certain services. If an instructor decides to stand up for the students, they are fired without warning.
I have been lied to constantly by administration and have dealt with condescending attitude from people who sit behind the glass. If we stand up for ourselves, it is taken to our instructors and it is said "When they start talking smart like that we know you have been talking to them". Continuously, from the beginning of the program we were told we were going to receive a certain set of items in our cosmetology kits. Half is missing and students are given cheap products from local beauty stores available to the public which does not cover the amount we paid for supplies. I was told after multiple meetings that "Kit items are subject to change" but what that really means is that they downgrade your kit so they don't have to pay for more then they have to.
The salon is kept at temperatures unlawful to state board guidelines because the office is "too cold". Clients and students are extremely uncomfortable and are exposed to potential pathogenic growth with the warmth in the room, including dryers that are in use. Salon equipment is outdated and always out of order. From 2016 when I began schooling, I have notified everyone possible that the sterilization machine was not working and it was not replaced until a year later when I complained in a personal meeting with all administrators.
They do not keep accurate records of your hours, as anyone who can do simple math and read dates can figure out. Which refers to my previous point of behavior that belittled students due to carelessness of their progress and paperwork. When you ask to meet with someone, excuses are given every single time, just to prevent the extra work. They are always in "meetings" or at lunch or in the parking lot smoking.
Grades are a joke. I was once handed a paper that had my name hand-written on it with one line that said my grade percentage, which was rounded up, and a letter with no explanation. When I asked where I was in terms of my hours, I was handed a sticky note that had my hours written on it. Completely unprofessional and does not prove anything. Students are not given a true representation of what they have accomplished and what to work on.
Bullying has occurred at this school and when administration was told, they dusted it off as nothing and allowed it to continue. No reprimanding has occurred because they are so afraid another student will drop-out from their depressing school.
On a personal note, this school has caused me so much emotionally stress, anxiety, and panic attacks that I have had to seek medical attention for it. It is now almost two months after I have graduated and I am still having nightmares about this school. I have literal emotional damage because of the stress they put me through. I have kept quiet this year but I decided to speak up for myself at the end of this journey, which is just the result of me being completely over everything this school has said. I ran out of energy and...
Read moreI attended this school for the nursing program, worst decision of my life. I was one of the students in the very first class. We recieved tablets, never a hard copy of a book even though every student repeatedly requested them. The general education classes were HANDED to us, 7 weeks of the teachers giving the answers to every test or quiz just to pass the students. No actual learning or teaching was being done. During Fundamentals, we attended clinicals at a nursing home which we literally walked out of because the instructor was unhappy about the place not having the air conditioning fixed after the most recent hurricane at that time. We then continued our "clinicals" at the school where we were told we would be able to use the simulators for a more realistic experience. Of the almost 2 years I was there we maybe used the simulators TWO times, conveniently they never worked when we needed them and because we were an evening class nobody was ever there to help the instructor run them. The following clinical for mental health was about the same thing, we attended Stewart Marchman where our instructor was late on several occasions and would have us leave early because she had "things to do", this was the same with the next set of clinicals we had at Cantral Fl Regional Hospital in Sandford. Our clinicals were scheduled 7a-7p one day a week. We NEVER stayed the entire shift, you are required to have a certain amount of clinical hours in the facility, we never met those hours but the instructor (who was the same instructor for every class) wrote off the hours as if it was no big deal. THIS PROGRAM IS NOT ACCREDITED. They are in the process of accreditation but I have low expectations for them to obtain the accreditation, especially since the school is working on nursing director NUMBER THREE. Two of which who walked out due to their license being on the line lying to get the school in good standings, and number three was fired and then brought back, so technically 4 nursing directors in 2 year time period. They have had one instructor for almost every nursing class who is a complete idiot. If you have any question about what shes taught she'll brush you off as if you're to incompetent ro understand. The new teacher they brought it for OB/Peds actually called us all incompetent in the middle of class. This place is a complete waste of time, a class that started as 12 people is down down to 4 because of lack of communication, false advertisements and the lack of knowledge from the administration and instructors. 42,000 for the class and they still expect you to pay at least $20.00 a month directly to the school "in order to prepare you for paying your loans after school as ended". None of the payments go towards your loans either, and if you do not pay the school these payments they will not allow you in class. I personally was kicked out of a clinical facility for using my phone at lunch, which was apparently against the rules. No warnings, no write ups, literally kicked out. The school then wanted me to write an apology letter to the hospital which I did, but it was not to the schools liking so I was told to rewrite the letter and then I would be able to finish my hours IF I was able to pass the midterm which 5 out of 9 people failed. Otherwise I would need to repeat the semester and pay an additional $5000. I would not recommend this place to ANYONE. They do not properly educate you for NCLEX. A joke and complete waste of time, do not waste two years of your life for something you will not get anywhere with....
Read moreI graduated from the cosmetology program around August 2017. The only positive thing to mention about this school at the time was my instructor who has since left and three more instructors have also left in that short time. I paid a total of $15,599. I and students who joined the program months before and months after me - were provided with a multiple page list of kit equipment. After receiving my kit and realizing I had not been given at least half of what I was due (books & supplies cost me $3679), I dug around and it turned out the equipment list was a couple years old and "subject to availability". I questioned why I was receiving a no more than $20 set of clipper guards (on sale at the local Sally's) instead of a $60 set of clipper and guards. I was told word for word "trust me, you make up for it in dispensary supplies". Meanwhile we were often lacking basic inexpensive things such as cotton, caps (we had to use trash bags on client's heads numerous times), gloves, etc. As a side note, I was on government grants so for them to not provide me with what I paid for is an actual federal offense. Keeping track of my services was a joke as well. When provided with a list of all my services, it stated I had done around 50 shampoos (I was near graduation... this is a 1500 hour program and you are doing anywhere between 1-3 shampoos a day). Apparently I had also done 5 or so MANNEQUIN mani/pedis which is literally impossible and does not even exist at the school, a good example of how the office is so far disconnected from the classrooms they would have no idea not to put that down. I witnessed bullying on an almost daily basis - students vs students and office vs students. Once from the "vice pres of operations" himself. I watched a student leave crying one day after being bullied by another student and assistant instructor when she did not feel comfortable performing a certain service. The vice pres later came in to get his hair cut, smiling to a few of the other students about how he didn't believe her and she'd essentially cried wolf. P.S. The above mentioned assistant instructor would often come in visibly high and attempt to teach us. The last day I saw him he was hallucinating claiming to see a mouse in the salon. Months after graduating, I'm working in a salon and get contacted by DBPR. Apparently the school's HIV/AIDS certification had been (and still is) outdated since May aka if I did not pay to retake the test my license would be revoked (the same applied for any student who graduated after May such as myself and is still an ongoing issue). I called the school immediately, spoke to the same vice president and was assured it was a mistake on DBPR's side and he would call me back the next day to update me. A week went by - I received no phone call. I called again, no one would get a hold of him for me, I left another note and have not heard back since. I do not recommend this school and I hope this actually gets through to anyone looking to attend here - please spend your money...
