SELLERS beware - if you are not familiar with the secondary Lego market, don't sell here. If you are familiar, I'll save you the trip and recommend you go elsewhere. This shop, while potentially great for buyers, definitely preys on the uninformed or the desperate when dealing with the sellers.
I recently contacted them and asked if I could bring in a new UCS Millennium Falcon (75192) and a new UCS Y-Wing (75181). Both sets are new, with all bags sealed, but the box is open on both. When I arrived at the store she immediately told me that I could only sell them as bulk legos for $5 a pound because the boxes were open. I was quite shocked, as they clearly understand how valuable these are and to even suggest that option is absurd. I asked why that would be if all the bags are sealed and its very clear they've never been built. The explanation offered was that they cant verify they are the correct bags. I pointed out that the instruction manuals are right there and its pretty easy to confirm the correct bags are present - something I would still recommend any sane person do if they bought them "new - unopened". She said that they couldn't do that - suggesting that they had been "tricked" before with swapped bags - and continued to offer the bulk price multiple times. If you cant look at some polybags and confirm they belong with a set - not sure what to say. Finally after much discussion she suggested that they could perhaps buy them at the "used" price if the sets were built. I asked if she could confirm what they would offer so I knew if it was worth my time to build them (the Falcon takes dozens of hours to build easily). She said they would offer $200-300 for it built, with all minifigs. My jaw hit the floor for the second time. She explained that because they would sell it for about $700, they would have to buy it from me for $200-300. That sort of margin is absolutely bonkers. Apparently they thought that I wouldn't consider A) the original price of these sets B) their obvious worth looking at other secondary markets such as eBay or C) how insane of a markup that is from what they paid for it. I get that rent for that space is pretty high but really?
If you're a person who has sets and you're not sure what you have - go elsewhere and do some quick research to confirm what you have. Lego sets are notoriously valuable, even used, so do NOT let yourself get hustled! If you're an informed collector looking to sell sets, go elsewhere and save the trip. If you're desperate for money - maybe consider...
Read moreUpdate: My friend ended up returning the set and the store handled the return and went above and beyond by giving my friend cash back and making his process as easy as possible. Because of this I am changing my review back to five stars as well as because of the action and professional response. I appreciate how they handled this.
Yesterday, I bought a $330 LEGO set for my best friend’s birthday. Since I purchased it from a secondary store, I asked the clerk if there were any discounts available. He said no, as it was a sealed product, which I completely understood—but his attitude was incredibly frustrating.
When I went to pay, I mentioned I’d like to split the payment between cash and card, as I had set aside some cash specifically for this gift. He responded that they don’t allow “three-way” payments, which I hadn’t asked for. I only intended to use two methods. It was just his overall demeanor that was aggravating.
With a purchase like this, you want to leave feeling excited—but instead, I walked away irritated. As I told my friend, it was the least satisfying $360 purchase I’ve ever made.
Funny enough, my friend shared that he had a very similar experience at the same store—with a worker who looked just like the one I dealt with. He and his sister had organized two separate bins for their purchases, and the employee just dumped everything together at checkout. So frustrating.
My friend did like the set I got him, but he thinks he’d prefer something else. Hopefully, the exchange process is smooth.
I do want to say that I generally love this store, and the rest of the staff have always been fantastic. But when one employee brings a negative attitude to a place that’s supposed to be fun—especially a toy store—it really takes the magic out of it.
I’ll take my business...
Read moreGlad that this store exists. I was excited to check out this store after seeing some adds on Facebook, I have to admit I was slightly caught off guard in the store, I'll explain in a sec.... The store carries new and used Lego sets. Most of them unique, collectable, and hard to find sets. They also have a minifig area where you can create and purchase your own minifigs, and custom made minifig display stands. There is an area toward the back where you can dig through tubs of Lego and buy Lego by the lb. Cool ideas and unique store to KC. My issue is that I had assumed from the advertising that this might be a place to get some discounted Lego pieces or sets. Maybe I don't understand the Lego market, but the prices throughout the store were just as high or higher for sets and pieces than your other typical options. Again I may be out of my realm here, but when bringing in a 9 yr old that wants every Lego set, I wasn't ready to drop the cash on them there. Cool store, cool set up, just not the place to browse with my 9 yr old and his big eyes that want daddy to purchase something in every toy store... I was also hoping for some used Lego pieces that I could find more readily to complete missing pieces in our sets at home, it was pretty busy when we were there and maybe I just didn't understand the exact idea of the store .... Still, very cool collectables when it comes to Lego and Lego sets! Love Lego, it is worth checking...
