This studio is nice and has good amenities. The class I took (10am Fri) was listed at 90° but hardly felt more than 80°. The instructor (Giselle, I think) was kind and encouraging but she did a few things that were problematic for me as a health and fitness professional of 10 years (ACSM and AFAA certified) and as an experienced, regular practitioner of yoga. There were a few poses which I made personal adjustments to, such as using a block to support myself, or reversing a hand direction to accommodate my wrists and elbows more comfortably-- and she asked me in front of the class to not make these adjustments, or simply to revert back to exactly what she asked. In my experience of yoga (and any fitness activity) adjustments to poses are not only allowed but are encouraged, in order to accommodate different body types or physical limitations as each Yogi works up to the pose through their ongoing practice. I've never been told to not use a block, and I've definitely never been called out on it in front of a class of students. It is worth noting also that the studio is full of mirrors, which some may find distracts from the overall goal of looking inward and finding a peaceful mind-body connection. They should consider offering a class that covers the mirrors, as they may find that it helps students to connect inwardly. I have noticed this in a few studios in California, which is very different from other places...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBYUV- The excellence started when I first walked in the door and met Kim Tang and Leesann, who didn't bat an eye when I wanted to do the 60 Day Challenge and BTW never did yoga before. The encouragement was sincere and each instructor, each student has gone out of their way to share help, knowledge and kindness every day without fail. It is as true today as 45 days ago. You don't just attend, you are taught, coached, and encouraged every time you show up. I feel at this studio I walk in the door and can do anything - and that is the culture created and upheld by every incredible person That walks thru the door. I am overweight- , I have not worked out in five years and arrived very out of shape. 45 days later I walk tall, feel incredibly flexible and have found...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI took my first yoga class here after BYUVPD offered an excellent groupon deal, figuring I had little to lose if I didn't like it. I'm so glad I did! I have used all the classes from my groupon and recently signed up for 6 months of unlimited yoga classes. I started with Yin yoga and continue to go twice a week, but I've also recently started my Bikram journey, both in the moon room light classes and in the bigger, hotter sun room. I haven't been practicing for very long but I already notice changes in my flexibility and general well-being. This is a lovely facility: beautiful changing rooms, great HVAC system, and friendly, knowledgeable instructors and practitioners. Everyone is super encouraging, even if you are a beginner and don't have a...
