Hometown Piggly Wiggly — Local services in Parkersburg

Arrived at store at 6:55am, knowing it opens at 7, since I needed to get back home quickly for a conference call. The lights were still off inside the store, and 4-5 employees sat outside, all smoking. At 658 I exited my vehicle and asked for confirmation that the store opens at 7; one of the employees (politely) responded that they would be opening in a few minutes. So back into my car briefly... then back out right at 7 since there was still no move from the employees to actually open the store. After I stood there for a minute or two they got up and headed to the doors to unlock the store. So... While I didn't have to wait terribly long, I found it off-putting to see all of them smoking right in front of the store (it's a grocery store after all), and at most stores if customers are waiting before opening, the employees open the doors right on-time rather than making you wait for them (to finish smoking or whatever). Just a little awkward. On the plus side, for the first time ever since the start of the pandemic, I saw at least one of the employees wear a face mask! (At checkout). Hopefully that's a store policy change now...

This store has never been great, but somehow managed to get worse after becoming Piggly Wiggly. The prices have increased, the produce section is incredibly lacking, the meat selection is sparse, the frozen seafood is very minimal. Had to take several products back to the store on multiple occasions because they were sold to me expired. The only good thing I can say about the store is that the staff are always friendly. Bottom line: It is very much worth it to drive out of my way to Kroger, which is an example of what a grocery...

Love the convenience being I live off rosemar and hate going clear to walmart or kroger for a few items but they got to be at least a dollar or two or sometimes 3 dollars higher on almsot every item in the store they stay pretty busy I don't see why they gotta mark everything up so much unless they just don't get the cheap prices like the big box stores..other than that its...
