I have celiac disease, and onion allergy. The staff were not knowledgeable about either of these. When I asked about what one or two foods were cooked with (shared oils and surfaces, side ingredients, sauce), the waiter seemed to just be guessing, acting like we were bothering him by just being there, looking distracted and impatient even before I opened my mouth. So, I stopped asking quickly.
I took a chance and ordered a steak, asking for it ONLY to be seasoned with normal salt, and specifically NO ONIONS. He didn't bother to write that down, not sure if he relayed that or not. He didn't even ask me how I wanted its cooking level. It came to me so rare it was mostly so raw it was still red and shiny on the inside. And, there were big blatant onions on and under it. :( Like, he HAD to have seen that, didn't care though... I didn't want to make a scene though, so I asked to have it cooked to medium, removed the onions, and handed it back. (There was no apology while he watched me scrape off the onions onto a napkin, no appearance of it jogging his memory about my request.) It returned cooked properly.
I have medications that can help me with the terrible gastric upset and shortness of breath I get from eating anything with onion residue, and I felt lucky I brought enough for a triple-dose. Even then, I still got quite sick for the rest of the day (that stuff's not a cure-all, I still have a very limited diet on a daily basis).
While I can't expect every restaurant to cater to everyone with special needs, having 7 or 8 big pieces of onion (one a complete ring) visibly spread around on a steak when I asked for none (I don't even think it's supposed to come with any? I could be wrong?), was kind of a slap in the face, like "I don't care what you ask for". It's just a good thing that my allergy is very mild compared to my dad's.
But even if it was just personal preference, that shouldn't have been too hard to get right, right?
At least it DID taste good, I'll give them that, flavorful and juicy. Likely had some seasoning other than salt though, so once again, darn good thing I came prepared and medicated, but that doesn't always work... My brother in law was supposed to get refried beans with his meal, but they forgot that too. Fortunately I gave him mine, since I had no guarantee about its ingredients either. Everyone else's (sister and mother) meals were just ok.
The waiter also walked away in the middle of us asking for things like refills and ketchup, so that was frustrating for...
Read moreOur first thoughts when pulling in the parking lot was that we wouldn't be seated for a while especially since it was a Friday night and the parking lot was packed. To our amazement we were seated as soon as we walked in and our waiter was ready asking us for drinks within a minute of sitting. Within two we had our chips and salsa which were delicious, we like to get the queso and dip out chips in both. We ordered our food when our drinks came, which was within 3-ish minutes, and received our food before we could even get halfway through the chips which is surprising for my experience in Mexican restaurants, usually I eat at least one bowl before the food arrives. Let me tell you this place has amazing food, I ordered the burrito jimador. It is an absolute unit, one burrito the size of an oval plate, stuffed to the gills with steak, and rice and such, smothered in queso and red sauce. If that doesn't sound good to you, then you must not be a fan of Mexican. My pregnant wife ordered the steak burrito bowl, this thing is also huge. Being pregnant as she is, she has a hard time keeping food down, but with this she had a hard time putting her fork down even after she knew she was full. Another indication that this food is good is that my unborn child also became more active inside my wife's belly shortly after we left the restaurant, which I am taking as a good sign, like she is excited about the amazing food. Our waiter was really friendly and checked on us multiple times throughout our meal to make sure our drinks were full and the food was good. If you are wanting a great Mexican restaurant to eat this is the...
Read moreDining in has been fine over the years but takeout is another story. On 3 consecutive attempts to get an order right and clearly specifying multiple times while placing the order to not include the guac, lettuce tomatoes and sour cream that is standard with most dishes it all was placed which is an issue because mainly the customer asked for it to not be included but the liquid seeps into the rest of the dish overpowering the flavor and making the other food soggy. That isn’t enjoyable. They have been asked to remake the food due to this and thought it fine to simply lift it themselves and return the same dish. Well it was noticed because it was all still soggy and tasted like lettuce, guac and sour cream. Tried calling to complain but they just leave the line open and won’t talk. So apparently a review somewhere is needed. I take no pride in posting a negative review.Others spending their money simply should know. Done eating here for at least a year. Nearly 50 dollars have been wasted in one week giving multiple chances and thrown in the trash. Don’t forget there are nothing but Mexican establishments to choose from in...
