Let me start off by saying I basically never write reviews. I could probably count the total on one hand. But I feel compelled to do so because I had such a fantastic experience at this Armstrong location. Not only did they have a great selection and everything I needed for my project, but I also had the absolute pleasure of working with Mindy who made the entire visit exceptional!
I came in feeling really overwhelmed about a big garden project, but Mindy immediately put me at ease. Mindy spent so much time with me, thoughtfully consulting on my vision and space. She asked to see photos, inquired about the details of the project, and really listened. She shared her deep knowledge of plants, especially her expertise on California natives and what thrives in this area, but always made sure my voice and preferences were front and center in the process.
We walked through just about the entire garden center together, reviewing options and selecting possibilities! Once we had a good mix, she helped me thoughtfully arrange groupings of plants to see how they'd look together. She offered suggestions and made edits that brought a real sense of cohesion and harmony to the overall design. It wasn’t just about picking plants, it really felt like designing a space with someone who genuinely cared & was just as excited about my project as I am!!
Mindy’s passion for cultivating the earth was truly palpable, and her dedication to helping others cultivate their own green spaces was truly inspiring. On top of all that, she was just lovely to talk to - knowledgeable, kind, incredibly helpful, & interesting. I left not only with beautiful plants, but also with a lot more confidence and excitement about my project thanks to her. Thanks Mindy &...
Read morea few months ago, I had one of those days. I was trying to help my grandfather graft his Bonsai tree from the fires that he's been growing for 50years and we found out it wouldn't survive because of how bad the soil is. The Huntington garden Bonsai master came to help me with it and he said its not worth saving.
The amount of emotions I was feeling was just horrible. The one thing that kept my grandfather hopeful was that his plants survived and my goal was to make sure they did.
Well it didn't. I had a complete meltdown and the bonsai person chopped our tree and said run to a garden and get this planted asap....
So I decided to go to Armstrong. I have a pile of cuttings in my hand and I literally just said I need help with tears running down my face. Let me tell you... They helped. MEGAN helped me. She was the kindest soul I've ever met. It was close to closing and she knew I needed support during this time and she supported me and was so gentle, patient and made sure I left with my cuttings in 2 pots and planted correctly, and taught me about rooting powder and how to take care of them. LITERALLY gave me a 30 minute course to help me save what was left.
Thank you Megan, it was your kindness that helped me get through such devastation. To some it may be small, but to me it really meant the world. The cuttings are still alive and little roots are coming in! We plan to replant them for the future generations in our family.
Armstrong garden has lovely plants and a incredible team. I look forward to purchasing our plants when its time...
Read moreI write reviews when I think a place and service are both outstanding. And this is definitely the case at Armstrong's in Pasadena. I am a plant neophyte and came in needing to find several different types of plants to fill in different gaps in our front street-side yard. I walked around the beautiful garden center first, amazed at the lovely variety, colors, shade-sun, perennials, annuals, succulents, larger and smaller trees...not to mention all the gorgeous pots, planters, and items to make a yard or garden really special. I came indoors and was greeted kindly by David, who asked if I needed help. When I sheepishly admitted I was a complete novice and needed assistance, then showed him some pictures of what I was trying to achieve, he was so pleasant and helpful. He came up with several different options for sunny, partial sun, helped with determining how large the plants would get in certain spaces, and then shared some planting and soil tips. During the 20-25 minutes or so in which David assisted me, there were several other customers who came inside or were seeking assistance -- David immediately asked other assistants to assist those customers, explaining what they needed and where to locate them. I was so happy with my overall experience -- the last thing you need when you are trying to help resuscitate a garden or lawn is patronizing or dismissive assistants -- David was the exact opposite: Kind, responsive, helpful, and encouraging. I will be back to this Armstrongs for any future plant needs. Thank you, David,...
