Two year resident who just moved out to shorten commute. Beautiful buildings and apartments ideal for commuting couples. The new management team headed by Kaitlynn mentioned by a few folks on older reviews they brought on board really improved things. Things like the amenities being essentially open to the public in a secured building, overflowing trash, the fob system regularly breaking every power outage locking everyone out have all been resolved under them. Maintenance was great as well the entire time.
Like with most modern built apartments a lot of the luxury is only surface deep but that is a global thing in this price range, not solely AW. Almost all of our appliances broke at one point during the two years BUT the maintenance and management team was always quick to respond and replace the same day without prodding. No hassle, no waiting on an outside service tech, just a quick here's a working one. Our fridge broke late in the day once, I was resigned to losing our food since I doubted anyone would respond quickly outside of hours but they immediately brought one from an unused unit and plugged it in for us to move our food to and came to finish the replacement the next day.
My apartment was right next to the rec room and I never had any issues with noise despite gatherings there or from any neighbors. If you have heavy footed upstairs neighbors or toddlers up there I could imagine that might be frustrating as the only solution is putting down rugs for the floors. This might be dependent on your unit though because they have so many different styles and designs in each building.
Ditto for safety. My wife and I drive the most and second most stolen cars in America and we never had any issues with break-ins or attempted theft. I don't think I ever locked the apartment unless we were going to bed. Never any issues finding parking either. Same for packages as there is a central package area that is monitored. Only place I've never had a package stolen from.
The apartments seem a lot larger than their already expansive size because of the ceilings. If you love interior decorating you can create some really stunning designs to wow visitors. The amenities are great as well. A free to use function room, a nicely stocked recreation room, basketball court, gym, stocked library, and movie theater and the buildings themselves, particularly 10, are really impressive and beautiful.
The only reason for 4 stars as opposed to 5 is because of the area around the property and this is pretty subjective to having lived there as a family. As a family once you leave the building unless you have a car there is no where for kids to go.The streets in the area have almost no sidewalks and you're right next to two major streets. If I was living here before kids I don't think this is something I would have noticed and it's location down the street from I95 makes it a good location for commuters. You're also right next to a Fire Department station and if sirens bother you look for a unit on the other side of the property from Central Ave as they go off all throughout the day and night and somehow know when you've just put your...
Read moreLived at American Wire for 5 years - just recently moved out. Here are my thoughts:
Pros: Convenient location, apartment was for the most part nice, management was nice (just not consistent - see below)
Cons: It was LOUD - . We had issues with multiple neighbors (one issue with a dog took 6 months to resolve). Sometimes it was fine, but neighbors constantly moved in and out so we would get some quiet then it would be awful with the next neighbor. The office would generally help us after some time and we understood it comes with living in an apartment, but just a heads up that noise travels in this place.
Rent went up 22% in the time we lived there. Understand renting got expensive everywhere but it didn't quite feel worth it at the end... just be aware your rent may increase just about every year.
Shared spaces had recently been super disruptive and loud - people blaring music and kids constantly coming into the building to use the basketball court. Might benefit from someone checking in on the building after office hours?
The office used to keep the packages in a secure location - now they just get dumped in the front lobby. Know multiple occasions of stolen packages. Bummer.
Parking was brutal - rarely any spots in open parking. They added a garage but you had to pay more per month. Having folks over was a nightmare because there is no visitor parking.
Zero consistency in the management - they were all helpful, but just throwing it out there
They removed the grass and added Astroturf in the only spot you could "hang out" outside and it just smelled like pee all the time. They did try and get folks to clean up after their animals, but not quite sure it was enforced...
There are these weird oil spots all over the walls that randomly pop up... they mentioned its from it being an old factory. But idk they always...
Read moreThe lease is 86 pages. You might think that's a bad sign and you would be right. There's so much that's so awful, but let me start with the fact that these buildings are basically on the site of an active polymer factory, Teknor Apex, and you'll be breathing whatever's coming out of those stacks. Also, there was a murder right across the street last winter, and when people asked for extra security, Brady Sullivan (who owns American Wire) brushed off everyone's concerns. There's a weird stovetop that will basically start melting the minute you use it, but you'll be charged $600 for "damaging" it, when it's clear that the stove just has to be replaced every time someone moves. This company is rigid about every. damn. thing. The street in front of my building collapsed, swallowing up a resident's car--these restored warehouse buildings are a bad deal in that respect. The water occasionally came out brown or just wasn't working. The roof leaked and was also continually being repaired with toxic material that I could smell in my apartment. At one point, the roof in my neighbor's apartment fell out in chunks and she then had vertigo for a few days. The water in Pawtucket has an extremely low EWF rating: we didn't once drink the tap water, not even with a filter. About six months in, I felt like living there might take years off of my and my kid's life, so I moved out early and just sucked up $6K in lost rent. Living there was like inviting cancer into your life. That 86-page lease is NOT...
