I have never been more dissatisfied with a dealership than I have been with NPD. The sales department was completely fine, I have nothing negative to say about them. The service department however was hands down, bar none, the absolute poorest excuse for a department I have ever witnessed at any dealership from New Hampshire to Rhode Island.
The 2012 R1 that I purchased for $10.5k was one of their "premium" bikes, meaning they apparently serviced it before offering it for sale. It also comes with a 3 month, 3,000 mile warranty. (I also purchased an additional 12 month, unlimited mile powertrain warranty for $300).
While looking at the bike in the showroom after having put a $250 deposit down, the bike failed to start. This was first attributed to a bad battery. That was replaced, and then it was discovered that the neutral switch was also bad. Fast forward a few days and I drive an hour up to pick up the bike. I get it out of the lot and stop at a convenience store. I turn off the bike for about three minutes and then, miraculously it fails to start. I try 5-6 times and it simply won't turn over. I call them back, and they pick up the bike. Two days later I'm told there is nothing wrong with the bike, and that it requires an open throttle to start (On a FI motorcycle?)
So I contact HK Powersports, Central MA Powersports, and MOM's Foxboro, as well as posting to the R1 forum. Every source I checked with indicated that under no circumstance would you need to open the throttle to start this bike, and that there was an electrical issue going on. George, the service manager, flat out refused to investigate this issue, stating that "there's nothing wrong with the bike, I don't know what to tell you." Given that three Yamaha dealers agree his information is incorrect, as well as a forum full of R1 riders, I will now have to take delivery of a bike with an issue and take it elsewhere to be serviced.
So much for their "premium" bikes and warranty service. I can't stress enough how much I do not recommend purchasing nor servicing a bike here, so long as George is the manager, as he clearly has no interest in identifying actual issues when he can slap a workaround on it and call it a non-issue.
Updating this in response to the business owner's response:
This is blatantly false. The purchase was never offered to be refunded after the fact. This was an ongoing issue that I expressly requested to be looked into which your service manager REFUSED TO DO. Do not post false information. And if you genuinely cared about resolving this issue, you would have contacted me directly via phone, which I attempted to do multiple times with George who specifically outright refused to investigate this issue. The motorcycle has a STARTING ISSUE, NOT A TUNING ISSUE. Your service manager specifically stated "This is how these bikes are. There's nothing wrong with it." So your additional information is also factually incorrect. Slip on exhausts do not require Power Commanders. The bike's got an electrical issue. Plain and simple. And I am bringing it today (4/12) to MOM's Manchester to...
Read moreI recommend Second Wind BMW Triumph, and have recently purchased 2 new motorcycles from them, after spending almost 3 months reviewing competitive brands and models.
Chris, the sales specialist, patiently answered every technical question I raised, provided detailed comparisons, and most importantly, made relevant suggestions to help me understand not only how the various models would perform, but also how they would complement, or more importantly, challenge my riding experience. He was infinitely patient with me. Throughout this process, Chris, and his manager Nic, due to their own riding experience, were able to present this information in a manner that allowed me to make an informed decision, and provided insight that I would not have had, without their help.
Kris in Finance was also outstanding in securing financing packages that suited my needs, and structured them in the manner that helped me most. Kris acted as an advocate on my behalf, negotiating better terms and costs than I could have on my own. The explanations provided to me, and the speed with which this effort was completed, was unlike any I have experienced in the past.
I have been in a number of dealerships, and purchased these motorcycles after a very long deliberative process. I had waited a long time for this, and wanted to make sure that not only would I find the right motorcycle for myself, and my son, but that I would also find a dealership where the care for the customer and the motorcycle after the sale would be sincere. Chris and Dave took the time to provide me with a shop visit, which is almost more important to me than the brand. The shop at Second Wind is likely the most professional I've ever seen. Amy, Mary and Scott were incredibly helpful as we explored the dealership, helmets, clothes, and cycles. Darrell the owner, clearly has inspired the team here at Second Wind, and they have the highest level of professionalism, warmth, and quality, I have encountered.
I recommend each of them, and this dealership without...
Read moreUpdate 12/17 a month after owning the bike it rode and ran flawless , but after a trip the check engine light came on , I called up the warranty department at the dealer, and was told my warranty probably would not cover a check engine light , but reassured me they would come 2 and a half hours and pick my bike up and take a look at it. I had the pleasure of dealing with the service department , specifically George. They found my 02 sensors were no good and the tune that was on the bike was probably no good. They made things right and replaced my 02 sensors and retuned my bike AND had it delivered back to my house. I just took the bike out and it's like a totally new bike and runs and rides even better than it was when I initially purchased. I am extremely satisfied with this dealer and they have earned a lifelong customer , and I will be referring all my friends to National Powersports from here on out. It's refreshing to know there are good dealers out there with so many scummy ones out there, they care about their customers and reputation and you can really tell. From their sales department , to their warranty and logistics department down to the service department this place is professional and the real deal. Thank you again.
was very skeptical about buying a used bike from these guys , the process was very quick and easy , they have options to get a 1 year or 2 year power train warranty on a bike too. The only thing I didn't like is you are not allowed to test ride a bike , which I found a little weird , they did have someone take it out on the rode and bang through all the gears for me so I could hear it and see it worked well. Bought the bike and rode it 2 and a half hours home, very happy with it and can't recommend these guys enough,...
