I usually don't write reviews but I felt this one needed to be posted. My wife and I walk in at about 3pm to inquire about selling a 14k gold twisted rope chain, 3mm wide and approximately 16.06 grams. Two associates, one in guns and another working the front counter. Young man at the front counter was helping another customer but never even acknowledged us, not a hello I'll be with you shortly, nothing and he had several opportunities. After about 15 minutes the gentleman working the guns department finally came over and asked if he could help. After letting him know why we were there, he said it would have to be the young man at the counter who would have to help. Finally 30 minutes after arriving he asked if he could help, I handed him the necklace and I fully understand that the piece of jewelry would be inspected but normally this process is done in front of the customer. It went from my hand, to his, he checked for the Karat mark, then weighed the necklace by hunkering down out of view under the counter, my jewelry scale is small, no idea why he couldn't have brought the scale up to the top of the counter, and then he proceeds to tell me, he has to take it to the back room (I'm assuming a manager or possibly owner) and just that, never told why he had to take a piece of jewelry out of site, under the counter is one thing, into another room for 10 minutes is another. When he finally came out, he said $150 to sale or pawn. Keep in mind 16.06 grams of 14k gold is roughly $595.00 in scrap gold alone, which I fully understand is how they purchase gold. They DO NOT take the quality of the piece of jewelry into consideration. I was fine with that but to offer 25% of an items value?! It wasn't a piece of electronics that would lose its value considerably, it was a gold, a proven investment. I had no problem with the pawn shop making their profit as a "middle man" thinking their offer would be at the very minimum $300 roughly 50% but not even close. If you have gold and need cash, take it to a jewelry store, they will take into consideration the quality of the piece as well as the Karat weight. I feel pawn shops are predatory and that some (not all) take advantage of people who may be in a difficult position and in need of quick cash and this confirmed that belief, perhaps not all but 90% hopefully this review will help others from...
