Planet Fitness — Local services in Pennsville Township

Let me start by saying how wonderful the staff is. Shane works hard to do what he can to provide an atmosphere that members enjoy. However, the upper management is far and away clueless as to what members in this particular community want in a gym. The sheer amount of cardio in this gym is RIDICULOUS. Never has every piece of cardio equipment in that gym been taken causing people to have to wait. Although, you can 100% count on waiting for a smith machine and/or a bench by the dumbbells. Every Planet Fitness I have visited other than the Pennsville location has 5 to 6 smith machines. So, clearly more cardio is what we're looking for here... I have been going to this Planet Fitness not necessarily because I want to, but because that is my option. There are two gyms in this town. Jersey Fitness would most certainly have my business if it weren't for the crowds that flock there. I am completely tired of going to Planet Fitness and having to wait for most weights and/or smith machines that I utilize to complete my workouts since standard bench presses and squat racks apparently don't align with their vision. Additionally, if you have an issue with another member "camping out" on a piece of equipment on their phone for an extended period of time, there's nothing staff can say because well, "no judgement". Fine, but if they receive that kind of respect, I expect the same when I have an issue. I also think that staff is afraid to offer assistance to members who may be doing an exercise incorrectly to the point they could injure themselves because of corporate guidelines. This poses a safety hazard for the members and a liability for Planet Fitness.

I would also like to address what occurred yesterday, May 21, 2024, with the unveiling of all the cardio equipment many don't care about. A sign was posted on the door for a week or two stating that the gym would be closing at 6pm on May 21st to allow for the setup of the new cardio equipment and that the gym would be closed the following day, May 22nd. Okay, that is understandable. What is completely UNACCEPTABLE is changing the closing time the day of at noon to close at 4pm instead. You have notified members about the dates and times. How in the world does one expect members to know that it is now 4pm when it is changed 4 hours prior to the closing time? And then Shane is left to field all the disgruntled members for the last-minute change. That is completely unfair to him. Upper management is far too concerned with things like dust on top of a smith machine; the real concern is what members in this particular community want. A wakeup call is most...

Love Planet Fitness. Usually clean and convenient. This morning I went in and saw new equipment had arrived per what I had been hearing. Great! Can't wait to use it!Everything looked clean and tidy.

So it being Memorial weekend I went to to build my base tan at 7:30 am. With the new equipment arrival I thought maybe they would have upgraded at least one Tan room to the hydrotan booths. I was in Georgia a couple weeks ago and they had tanning booths with red light options in them. Been anxiously awaiting them here. No such luck. So sad. So I asked for my favorite booth got my stuff and went in.

Disgusting. I walked in hair on the floor along with threads from some clothing. Globs of dark brown lotion on the floor which looked dried into the floor. The chair had a butt print on it like someone sat on it naked with slimey lotion.Opened the door and there was dirt and dust caked into the bottom of the booth. Footprints of the people or person who used it before. Shocker to me. I was used to seeing Jeff scurrying about keeping things tidy, instead the person was scrolling through their phone leaning on the counter. I let them know the condition of the booth before I left and he continued to stand there and do the same even as I pulled out of the parking lot.

There are bottles and towels provided to wipe equipment everyone in the gym but this bothered me. Like these booths are not being cleaned at the end of the night or checked periodically throughout the day...This booth looked like it had not had attention in a while.... are the booths or equipment aoley dependant on the people who use them to clean them? That is scary because I see people walk away from machines without wiping them or half-a$$ wiping them alot there as well.

Exceptionally clean. Excellent staff. Great atmosphere. Love working out here. Update: This update is not an indictment against the current management staff at PVPF, but what happened today was unacceptable. Flyers were posted for a week with a closing time of 6pm today for members. At approximately 12pm that time was shifted to 4pm. Members like myself had shifted theor schedules today to accommodate the change in schedule associated with new equipment (more to follow there) but this sudden change day of, left NO time for members to adjust to the new time. I myself was informed by another member of the change at 3pm while traveling to the gym. We then had to redirect to another PF in another state to work out today. Fortunately we are both black card members and have the ability to do so. I imagine some members were not as lucky today. That is unacceptable for information management.

Furthermore, the decision to change equipment to upgrade to new cardio was completely counter to the desire of MANY members to remove some cardio equipment to add additional weight training equipment. 3 Smith machines has made evening training tedious whilst waiting for equipment to open up. The need was for more weight training equipment, not an expenditure in new cardio equipment.

I hope sincerely that it is not taken as a singular opinion of mine. I have been a member and work out daily at this gym. There are a number of us who do this together. Please hear your members and understand THEIR desires...
