My mother was a resident At Alameda aproximately 2 weeks My mother family and myself were very happy with the care that she received from the very beginning you could notice a change throughout the entire facility
The 2nd floor did a fantastic job a nurse by the name of Sarah that was extremely helpful in ensuring my mother had her medication and all her physician orders Provided to her
Sarah went above and beyond she was working a double shift and when I Visited Sarah was extremely busy she did take the time out to ensure that my mother was well-cared-for
I arrive late in the evening and saw Sarah working very hard I was apprehensive about approaching her with some questions regarding my mom's care Sarah was on the phone taking care of another patient also see anand going through charts she caught a glance of me out of corner of her eye and she smiled As I stood there waiting for her to finish what she was doing she acknowledged me a couple times and told me she would be right with me her 1st interaction made me feel comfortable and really put me at ease As soon as Sarah finish doing what she was doing she asks me how can she help I gave Sarah a long list of Medication that my mom was taking at home and she patiently look through my mom's chart for each and every one and the 2 that were not there she said she will call the doctor and she also asked the nurse practitioner to assist by facilitating The orders for prescriptions coordinating with my mom's PCP There was a problem with my mom's call bell not working Sarah went Room to Room to find a call bell that was working turned out that the plug was not making a connection in the wall There was also an issue with my mom's bed and the air mattress Sarah mamade calls checked all the rooms and was able to make sure my mom was comfortable for the night And as Sarah promise maintenance did come in the following day to address issue with bed not operating properly Sarah further help with making sure my mom was on the schedule for dialysis the following day she flagged the chart and contact at the nurse that would be coming on duty for the next morning Sarah also arrange that the kitchen would bring early breakfast and a bag lunch because my mom is also diabetic to take with her to dialysis I was very concerned about one of my mom's medications that she had not received yet Sarah Inform me she was working on it and she quickly teamed up with another nurse to go down to the pyxis machine and retrieve medication
I was already impressed with Sarah then I overheard other staff telling her it was time for her to go home and Sarah replied not until she ensured my mother was well taken care of regarding issues that she was working on for my mom Sarah's response further impressed me and additionally my mom was not her patient but sarah went way above and beyond
Sarah was kind compassionate caring forthcoming and understanding In assisting to ensure total care of my mother and nothing was missed I would nominate Sarah not only for the nurse of the month but nurse of the year
I was impressed with the dietary department how they catered to my mother's special dietary needs and fulfilled her request without delay My mother told me on several separate occasion how good the food was and she was also Happy of the improvement since the last time she stayed at Alameda
Physical therapy was phenomenal my mother was re admitted with trouble walking now she is Walking with minimum discomfort when she arrived there she could hardly move her leg After a few short days she began to have movement and now she is walking Thanks to the rehab department
Housekeeping was outstanding the Room hallways and common areas always smell good very clean neat and organized
Maintenance was prompt to adress concerns with bed and quickly resolved issue
Social worker was extremely helpful when my mother was Admitted to facility and instrumental in ensuring a safe discharge and providing all of the necessary equipment my mom would need at home
I highly recommend...
Read moreI have only had my father there since July and it has been a complete nightmare. They switched his health coverage without consent, lost his clothing, billed an insane amount of money and expected payment within one week. As if that is not enough I have found my father with his clothes dirty with food. If you want proper care for your family member and yourself then this is NOT the place.
UPDATE: Since all of my issues with Alameda, I spoke to the director there Mr. Berger who was quite helpful in getting my father's needs taken care of and correcting past issues. I appreciate all of his help as well as all of the 5th floor nurses and cna's helping with my father's care. Things have turned around for the better.
7/22/18 UPDATE: Since my last review update, Alameda has gone thru many director and staff changes. This unfortunately has made everything worse. The rooms are very dirty (gause wrappers on the floor, empty plastic pieces from what they use to care for his wounds, sticky tables) , they are understaffed and the patients are left in their wheelchairs for hours until some actually fall asleep in them or start crying to be put into bed. They don't take care when changing the linen and washed my father's cell phone several times until it stopped working. His cell phone chargers keep "disappearing" and nobody seems to be able to do anything about it. When I made the report they told me there was nothing they could do. They keep loosing his laundry, not to mention they only bathe him about once a month if he's lucky. He gets cold dinner almost every night unless I am there to feed him. I have been going there every night to every other night to make sure he is ok. They keep taking him off the physical therapy as soon as he starts doing better, instead of increasing the therapy so that he can get better. I do not recommend anyone to bring their loved ones to this place. You will certainly loose them quickly.
Update: April 28, 2019 - Alameda has had many staff changes, mostly for the worst. As you can see from the photos, the rooms are disgusting most of the time and worse than that, the patients are always dirty, smelly and wet if the family members are not going there often to look after them. My son got sick and I was unable to go as often as I used to and my father lost a total of 10 pounds. He had not been showered in days and smelled horrible. His wound that was healing started to open up again. No matter how many times I call, they don't answer the phone on the floor and when they do I always get the same answer from the nurses "we are under staffed, we will try". That is unacceptable because they are getting paid top dollar not only by the families but by Medicare and Medicaid who really should get involved at this point. It's sad that they don't have the heart to care for the elderly. I guess they all think they will never get old and get the same treatment from people just like them. If anyone would like more photos or information, please feel free to comment my review and I will contact you with all the proof you will ever need. I take pictures of my father and the disgusting room...
Read moreThe only good thing about Alameda is the rehabilitation. As for the food its totally disgusting. I came into the facility weighing 147 pounds. I have been here for 2 months and still weigh 147 pounds. 8 out of 10 CNA are totally angry most of the time. There is alot of negative vibe throughout the nuersing home. I wouldn't recommend Alameda at all. If could give a rating of zero I would!!!!!. I can't believe the fraud in the positive reviews. I have a strong feeling that 9 out 10 or maybe all of the positive reviews have been written buy the owner or management to try to improve there rating. Really 4 stars. Iam going to dig deep and find out who really wrote the most recent positive reviews. I was in Alameda in 2014 and it was 5 stars. I was admitted 3 times in 2014 for 6 weeks at a time. Never once I had a complaint about the food or the staff. Also I wrote the rehab is great but its my understanding that the owners are pushing people to go to physical therapy 7 days a week. Talk about being money hungry. Everyone needs a break. For myself they tried to push me to walk but iam partially paralyzed. Also the hip replacement I received before coming to Alameda was totally botch. I suffer from intense pain. One person who wrote about giving patients here drugs to sudate them is totally true. They have no problem giving people Xanax to knock them out but when it comes to addresing individuals pain its non existent.. But they still want you to go downstairs to do rehab. If you refuse to go downstairs they go to your room and ask if you want to work out in your room. As long as they can bill Medicare and Medicaid...
