I am very sad to write this review because I loved shopping at Occasionette.
I stopped in on 11/26 to support a local shop on small business Saturday. I bought earrings & a few other items. I wore the earrings the next day for a few hours and they broke while I was wearing them - the ceramic part must have been cracked so it broke & fell off the hoop while I was wearing them (photo attached).
I went in with the earrings, explained they broke and asked what we could do. I initially asked for a replacement pair cause I really loved the earrings! The women working seemed very thrown off by my request & stated that their manager wasn't in so they could text her. They also said they saw another pair of the earrings at a different location, so if they could offer an exchange they were available. After about 10 minutes they told me it was the manager's day off so I could be waiting for an answer for a while, and said I could leave and they would call me later.
I received a follow up phone call and email about two hours later (email attached below). They let me know that their policy states they cannot accept any broken items back once they have left the store. The representative I was speaking with said he reached out to the manufacturer and they have never heard of their earrings breaking before. I asked the representative if there was anything they could do - store credit, exchange, etc. He said no, and let me know that as a small business they needed to stay consistent and if they accepted back every broken item it would be a huge loss for them. I let him know that was completely unacceptable, even as a small business who should want to retain their customers. He offered a 10% reimbursement which is honestly insulting since that basically covers the tax of an item.
I am very disappointed in a small business not wanting to retain their local customers or work towards some type of resolution. Be wary of any purchases here that could break because you will be completely...
Read moreUpdate: Love this store! However, I would advise not buying a certain type of earring from them, it's a thin metal earring (I'll attach a picture), and they're $50 for a set. My mom only owned a set for a year before it broke completely because of how thin it was, which is a huge bummer because they're not cheap... and of course I bought her another pair for Christmas since I didn't know the first pair broke - so the new pair is bound to break as well.
Adorable store with something for everyone. I enjoyed the mix of sassy and sweet cards, and they had great stationary, jewelry, candles, toys, etc. Their Philly section at the front was nicely curated too. The person who helped me check out was super nice and calm, which was the perfect vibe for the store. The only thing I can think of that would take this store up just a notch (it's already high up there!) is having a small and specifically curated section showcasing local artisans. I'm sure they had some locals, but not really anyone I recognized (could be my lack of knowledge though). It's always beautiful when a small business store front helps out local tiny businesses. Would definitely...
Read moreI like this store. Lots of fun and unusual things. My only gripe: a rigid return policy. I’ll explain… bought a small bar of Bob Ross soap. (Don’t judge. My bro loves him) Tried to return it and they were on vaca. I lost the receipt and took it back several weeks later- I don’t get down there much in winter. They told me they would not exchange it since it was after 10 days. I would have been happy w a credit and planned to buy another gift today but when they wouldn’t give me a credit, it left me kind of sad. I’ve spent a lot of $ there and thought they could have accommodated based on it being such a small item that was clearly theirs. I’ll probably go back but beware of their short and inflexible...
