Share Food Program — Local services in Philadelphia

Services to churches and organizations with the desire to volunteer to give out food to the poor with (volunteer) help. I'm a volunteer assisting a church program. The church administrator that brings us here is always embarrassed when we find ourselves waiting up to 6 or more hours to get this food. The trucks that bring in the Food unload the same time we come to pick it up. We are left outside illegally parked on the sidewalks of this busy street, trying to receive this food, burning up our gas to keep harm. It's just a matter of time when someone on this line will have an accident due to our running back and forth to Share's rest rooms. There's no regards to the weather. (rain or snow). One loses track of why they are there at times. Our administrator for the church that we serve, gets there at five in the morning to whole a spot in line. I bring what volunteers they can get at nine o clock. Some times, It's just he and I. Large trucks are scheduled any time of the day to use all available loading docks (2), slowing us down from getting in. They don't seem to have any organization to getting us in and out at the same time. There appears to be no respect for our time.. Poor system of operation. One has to be seriously desperate with much faith for the reasons you are doing this to themselves. If you leave to come back the next day, it's the same situation..I don't believe these people that are receiving this food, understand what we have to go through to get this food for them. I'm truly glad that I'm a volunteer, because if I was a church admin., coming to get this food. I would have to fine something else to do with my time to help these people and kick this idea to the curve! Every month, It's the same situation. (smile) I have been doing this since 2003. Most of my patience are learned, right here. (smile) This church is not able to keep volunteers. I'm not a member of this church. I'm trying to believe in...

I am sooo tired of complaining about the Share program participants sitting on my steps, leaving trash in front of my door. They come 7am in the morning and leave bags and chairs to hold their place in line. I had a potential tenant come to rent a apartment with me and declined because she said "Oh no, I can't deal with this every Saturday". I tried to be nice and tell them but nothing happens. Now I'm going to have to file a complaint with the police...

I think the share program is a good thing for people in need of food but some of the places they distribute from is terrible. They block the resident cars in, sit on their steps and the line in on resident pavements where you have to excuse yourself leaving your own home. Trash and boxes are left on people property etc. it’s good what they’re doing this but must find better locations. 600 blk...
