We have used Great cabins in the smokies on three separate occasions. A family outing in 2008, couples getaway thanksgiving 2013 & a romantic weekend valentines day 2015. They have always been extremely polite and the cabins have all been beautiful and clean. On this particular visit for valentines day we arrived from St Louis at approximately 6:30pm on Thursday evening. The office was closed but we were able to get the access code and directions via a late arrival box. When we got into our cabin, it was very nice and very clean. Our next stop was the hot tub, after lifting the cover the temperature read 59 degrees. The after hours listed inside the cabin stated for emergencies. This obviously was not an emergency, we understand that things malfunction...therefore the next morning we went to the office and explained that the hot tub was not working. The gentleman at the desk was very nice and said he would get a maintenance person out ASAP. We explained we were going into town and that would be great. We arrived back at the cabin approximately 7:30pm expecting to unwind with a bottle of wine and a soak in the hot tub. When we pulled back the cover the temperature was now 65 degrees. We went back inside disappointed but watched a movie and played games. The next morning the temperature was now 104...perfect!! We did enjoy the hot tub that day (valentines day). When we left the next morning on Sunday we contacted the office via voice mail letting them know we were checking out and would like a return phone call regarding the hot tub. Promptly Monday morning Marty contacted me via telephone. I stated to him that we were overall happy with our visit, but felt that not having the hot tub available for use for 2/3 of our stay should warrant a partial refund of our money. Marty stated he would send me a gift card for our next visit. I advised him that living in Missouri, I have no idea when the next visit to the Smokey mountains would be. (540 miles one way) He said he could not give any refund of our money since the owner of the cabin had already been paid and "they have mortgages" . Excuse me Marty, but we have a mortgage as well and when we budget a long weekend getaway, we expect to pay for what amenities are listed for the cabin!! A gift card would be a great solution for someone living close enough to take advantage of it! Marty also stated that the maintenance man was out fixing the hot tub at 4:30 pm Friday and "those things take hours to heat back up" . So my question would be if you knew we would be without the hot tub for yet another evening , why would you not make some sort of restitution then ( bottle of wine, show tickets, dinner voucher) instead of waiting for me to complain after the fact? The straw on the camel's back was Marty's comment "It's not like you were out of electric or something" Really?? SUB PAR customer service! Beware before you book your visit, there are plenty of these cabin rental companies there, I thought we had found top notch...I...
Read more[Review July of 2022] Bear’s Den of Accommodations by Great Cabins in the Smokies: I cannot state enough how much our family loves this property and how grateful we are to the owner for sharing her home with us. Home, is the best way to describe this cabin, as it is lovingly decorated with the very essences of the Smokies—peace and harmony with nature. I realized on our most recent trip how much time we spend ‘outside’ the cabin itself. The variety of trees in its massive yard mimics the GSMNP, as it is nestled very close to the border of the park itself. Minutes away from Little Greenbrier School House, Walker Sister’s Cabin trail and our favorite Metcalf Bottoms Picnic area. But, there is really no need to venture far, as this cabin and its massive property gives you the feeling of being inside the park itself. Bear’s Den, an enchanting cabin and property! Note: Well-managed by Accommodations by Great Cabins in the Smokies and a special thank you to Carolyn and Ruby who make every stay a special occasion. They are wonderful!
[Review Oct 2021] We recently returned to Bear's Den, an Accommodation by Great Cabins in the Smokies--WE LOVED IT! Bear’s Den, nestled on a beautiful property, is a lovely cabin for families and couples. Located on the doorstep of the National Park and within hiking distance to Metcalf Bottoms Picnic Area and Little Greenbrier School House within the GSMNP. As a couple and family, we have always loved this area, but the CABIN and GROUNDS are added treasures. Lovingly decorated by the owner and well-managed by a local agent, Bear’s Den is a one-of-a-kind, nostalgic, rustic, retreat. *The managing company, Accommodations by Great Cabins in the Smokies, is wonderful and accommodating. They treat returning customers...
Read moreMy husband and I rented Saddle Ridge cabin actually thru AirBNB (which I will never do again). A pretty intense winter storm ended up coming in the night before we were to arrive. The low temp was about 5° although our Jeep registered 0. Ruby called us several times on our drive to make sure we were making it ok and to let us know there was an issue with the heat at the cabin but she had someone coming to fix it. We had space heaters we had taken so we were ok. It was 44 in the cabin when we got up the next morning. So I called Ms Ruby. She immediately told us to get our stuff together and come to the office. She gave us the option to either get a refund or move to another cabin. We chose another cabin because we were there for Christmas and didn't want to leave. Ms Ruby and Jerry were both AWESOME and treated us like more than just "renters". The only thing we will do different when we go back is contact Ms Ruby directly instead of going thru AirBnb. We DEFINITELY would recommend Great Cabins of the Smokies if you're looking for a...
