emailed the shop for a class (they only offer stone carving anymore. (which is fine - i was excited! (: )). we had it all scheduled, albeit "scheduled" meant i was told "okay we have you down for that day!" so maybe i didnt do enough to confirm they didnt forget about me before showing up.
i went to Pipestone with the expectation that most of my trip would be spent learning and enjoying the class. the night i showed up to Pipestone the "open" sign was alight all night and the next morning it was still the same as it was left the night before. 10am rolls around and the shop is still closed. 11am came and went; i rang the ring doorbell several times throughout the day. sent an email inquiring and left my # for a call. best/worst part? around noon maybe (?) was when the light was turned off and the doors to the shop unlocked. but no one was in the building!!
biggest bummer. the very #1 reason behind going to pipestone after all was decided, was for the class and learning experience. hope all is well within the business. i still have not received an email from when i tried to reach out while...

Please support The Keepers with donations to their organization and/or purchases from their online shop. John...
Read moreBud, the owner of this shop, is an Ojibwe member. He is an interesting person to talk to and can tell you all about Oijiwe culture. He and his family often do educational activities, and even put on a culture camp that I attended. His shop is full of local handcrafted items. And he also has some wild rice from the reservation (which is better then the commerical stuff you get from the store) in a cabinet by the door. He will also sell you a piece of raw Pipestone if you want to try carving yourself. Bud and his family are dedicated to preserving thier traditions. I would highly recommend you stop by this shop and...
