Shell Beach Market — Local services in Pismo Beach

Had the most absurd altercation with the shop owners yesterday.

Preface this with I am local to Shell Beach. I frequent this store as well as Sando’s. Practically on a weekly basis. I was so shaken up after this exchange for doing literally nothing wrong.

My friend I haven’t seen in 3 years is in town fighting the Gifford Fire. We met Wednesday at 4pm. I wanted to treat him to Sando’s and snacks before his overnight shift. I parked on the street direct in front of Sando’s and discovered it was closed with modified hours of 2pm. NBD. I let my friend know Green Olive was around the corner. It was a sunny day, so we walked the three-ish blocks so we could catch up and still grab food before his 12 hour shift. We were gone 20 minutes? MAYBE.

I got back to my car and got in and realized the younger of the market owners smoking his cigarette out front was yelling to me. I poked my head through the sun roof, smiling at this point because I genuinely did not think he was yelling AT me.

He started ACOSTING me for parking on the public street. Told me I had to move my car because it blocks their parking and that I need to drive next time. I looked around and both sides of the street/curbs were completely empty. I told him I came for Sando’s but it was closed and he doubled down on yelling at me. Mind you, we were gone the same amount of time as if Sando’s had been open and we ate there instead. There are no signs stating it was a 15 minute zone or that the curb was reserved for their patrons. No ADA or Loading Zone signage. Nada. So I again reiterated I came to give THEM business but Sando’s changed their hours. He would not back down and raised his voice at me more, so I left.

I’m so astounded by this behavior in our tiny little community. THIS is how you treat your neighbors? Let alone your regulars? Big, big yikes. I’m also writing a complaint to the city council because it was so inappropriate and aggressive for...

i just stopped in for seltzer or diet coke or lactose free milk. there was only diet coke and the man said 10.99, then gave me $7 change. i said this is the wrong change. then he yelled CALIFORNIA CAV or whatever--like you don't pay taxes everywhere--and my response was, just tell me it's $12.50 and he started yelling at me calling me (insert mysigybistic hateful words for being a woman). kept yelling. i'm sure he hates his life but hate speach instead of just telling people the correct price like you're supposed to do the math for tax us bananas.

The clerk was very unpleasant from The beginning. I purchased 10 quick picks and quickly put the ticket in my purse. I was charged $20 and when i got home I took my ticket out and saw I was only given a $10 ticket with 5 quick picks. He ripped me off and I’m sure I’m not the only one.
