Every time I end up at this store, I feel disappointed. That may go for most Giant Eagle's at this point, but this one is particularly bad.
For most of my staples, produce, and frozen goods, I'll happily shop at Trader Joe's or Aldi. They're organized, efficient, pleasant shopping experiences with minimal duplication of product - and most importantly, very ecnomoical. They don't have everything, though, and sometimes you just need some Crest toothpaste, Tide detergent, Coke products, etc. That's when I end up at Giant Eagle or Target. Less and less here, because it's just not great.
But how is this store so bad? Beyond being cramped, it just feels... sad. I hate the organization (or lack thereof). It's clearly dictated by suppliers, and not organized to be logical or convenient to the shopper. How, in 2025, do we still have "ethnic sections"? Put tortillas in the bread section, soy sauce and salsa in the sauce section, and ramen next to noodles and pasta. Not doing this has me running in circles around the store.
Is everything self check-out now? As far as I can tell, the only staffed cashier is for the express lane. So, you get stuck behind people checking out an entire grocery cart on their own. It turns out most people aren't, you know, good at being cashiers or baggers. The self-checkout systems are horribly slow to deal with, and somehow don't even indicate that your transaction is complete - especially if you get a digital receipt. I once walked out not entirely sure if I successfully paid for everything, or if the gift cards I bought were activated (they were).
Why am I paying luxury prices for mediocre food quality, service, and shopping experience? I can't believe that even Whole Foods is starting to feel cheaper!
For the standard grocery store experience, I miss Wegmans in Rochester, and HEB in Austin. As much as I want to support our locally-headquartered grocer, they need to actually be competitive for me to pick here over, well,...
Read moreWish I could give it 0 stars. I shopped here about 4 years ago before returning to the area. I had already given up on the pharmacy there. You wait 35 minutes for a medication (NON-scheduled substance) that was called in days ago but never filled. One was an antibiotic I very much needed.
All I can say is; I wish we could just kick people out of my hospital or my place of employment Iâm currently at 10 minutes prior to closing. The attitude and rudeness is disgusting. The selection is already poor. I had gone here because I donât finish work until just before they close. But after being yelled at as if I were literally stealing something tonight, Iâll be heading to the Waterfront Giant Eagle prior to my work day. Or Aldiâs. We stay 40 minutes past our closing time at my job as a service to our customers. These people were running out of the store before me at 9:58. There was one very kind young male who used to do the announcements (which happen every 3 minutes to get you out of there) and was very friendly about it, but Iâm not sure what happened to him. He was probably too kind. Are there no managers in the evening, or are they, too without any ounce of compassion, humanity, or consideration?? Iâm constantly feeling like an intrusion on their work day, as if they canât be bothered while getting paid. The security guard is the only kind person there. The rest should find a job with no person-to-person interaction whatsoever. The cashier tonight literally sighed loudly and threw my stuff, grumbling about last minute and that I should add extra money to his register. I wouldâve been fired from every job within the last 16 years for that reprehensible attitude. I literally picked up 5 items after my own 10 hour work day. I wonât be back. This shouldnât be allowed....
Read moreIt is too much to even give this place a one star rating, but I had to. I went to this giant eagle to purchase a few small items, and when I got home I noticed that every one of them was expired and the bread was moldy, so I went back to the store to return them. I was actually more than willing to exchange those items and pick fresh items the same price. The people at the what is supposed to be customer service desk were extremely rude to me because I did not have an advantage card. The irony is that the man in front of me was returning a pair of pantyhose with no receipt simply because his wife "did not want them". I asked them why they made the return to him and they told me because he comes to their store frequently. I just moved in the area and I think my being a new customer is just as important as a frequent customer. Not wanting pantyhose over moldy black and green bread that your store failed to take off the shelf???? For last minute late night purchases, you are better off to go to rite aid on Murray Avenue. And to grocery shop, there is so much variety in the area,, no one needs this hole in the wall with untrained staff. I will shop at Whole Foods like I have been and again supplement late night purchases at rite aid, they have all the basics. They did not even make a simple apology....... please train your staff on the basics, there is nothing cute about...
