Poke Wars more like Poke Bruh

Now it is typical for a card store to either go off TCG (tcg player) prices or sticker a price onto the card that is usually floating around the going rate of what the card is being sold for online. In this case, I noticed a lot of Poke Wars cards in the display cases were stickered and overpriced by 200%. I wondered if they were going to also over charge on their “$1-$5” binder that I just grabbed (every card in that binder was stickered $5. Every one of them 😂😭💀).

When it came time to negotiate a price for two cards I picked out of a binder I asked if they go off tcg or the sticker price? I then got a long sob story of how the store needed to make back the money that they initially bought the cards for.

🚩 This is an immediate red flag 🚩

Card stores will never care what you originally bought a card for and that should be reciprocated to you as well. If a card shop overbought that is their problem, not yours. After a brief back-and-forth, I was able to talk the cards price down for what they were actually going for and that was not the 200% increase!

Poke Wars! They’ll try to scalp you, but use the force of TCG and they’ll turn from the dark side… kinda sorta…they have a curtain in the shop where you can hear their What Not guy on the other side scalping chat 🪦

A really great independent pokemon centric shop in old town Placentia! (cards, general pokemon gift and fan merch, one piece cards, etc) Owner seems kind and invested in having a good shop for the community which is nice to see. owner takes the time to chat a little with everyone that pops in Green flags: as of 02/2025 pokemon tcg prices are crazy but their prices for ETBs and bundles follow tcgplayer with very minor markup if any and if there is they're honest if they had to get it from somewhere other than distributors been here a couple of times and I've seen the owner coach multiple young kids on how to research their card value so they get a fair trade or not get scammed they have little bulk packs that they give to kids looking to start on pokemon cards

Beige flags: their hours kind of fall in line with when the area can get busy for lunch and dinner so finding parking can be tedious but there's lot of street parking around if the parking spots are full i would say half the employees are bored younger guys so it can feel a little awkward sometimes asking for help if they're talking to each other so I would just come in knowing what you want or what you're looking for
