My wife is recovering from rotator cuff surgery. She wears a very restrictive sling and is not allowed to lift anything. She went to HomeGoods and decided to purchase a large and heavy Breville countertop oven. An associate tried to find help to carry the box, but she didnât find anybody to help her. She tried carrying it by herself and dropped it into the cart. My wife noticed, but figured the oven should not be damaged. When I unpacked it at home, we noticed it was damaged, right no the spot where it hit the cart. We didnât want to keep a $300 damaged appliance where it would be obviously visible in our kitchen. So, I drove to HomeGoods to exchange it.
Here's where it gets interesting. I walked in early in the morning and told the story to 3 associates who were standing by the registers. They immediately call the manager. Manager comes over in a huff and start questioning me on what happened. She is obviously annoyed at this point and turns around to brusquely unpack the oven, which is no easy feat, and then shows it to me asking where the damage is. I showed her and she seemed really put out that I would return a brand-new oven for âsuch a minor dentâ.
And then the kicker!! She literally asked me âwhy would your wife buy something she canât carry!?â. Thatâs right! Even the customer next to me said âI canât believe she just said that!â. I responded simply âif thatâs a problem, why did you sell it to my wife at all?â.
Anyway, I walked over to grab a replacement and one of the associates who overhead actually apologized to me. While I was paying for the new one, I witnessed the same manager being very rude to her employees. Dear HomeGoods âcorporateâ, if this store suffers from high turnover, I would look into...
Read moreI visited HomeGoods today for the first time in a long while, since I usually shop online to avoid the crowds. I noticed that the familiar staff were no longer there â it seems the team has changed completely.
What surprised and disappointed me the most was the storeâs refusal to wrap an item I purchased. It was made of resin, a material that can easily get scratched, and I was hoping for some protective wrapping. However, the cashier told me that the manager does not allow wrapping for anything that isnât ceramic or glass.
Honestly, I could have accepted that policy if it had been explained kindly. But the way the cashier spoke to me â the tone, the attitude â felt dismissive and disrespectful. Instead of politely declining, she simply said, âSorry, I canât wrap that. Manager said no,â in a tone that made me feel looked down upon. It wasnât what she said, but how she said it that left a very negative impression.
For anyone planning to shop here, just be aware: they will not wrap any items unless they are ceramic or glass. If youâre buying something delicate but not made of those materials, youâll need to prepare your...
Read moreThis review is long overdue. I love this store and easily loose track of time browsing and shopping. Well, I was enjoying my morning shopping trip that I didn't realize my phone died. My phone was the only thing I brought with me that day and is my key to my car and my wallet. No one had a charger that I could borrow so I was going to have to walk home. I wish I could remember the name of the employee that saved me that day. She bought me a charger with her own money so I could charge my phone and get home. I tried paying her back but she refused and just asked me to pay it forward to someone else in need one day. She has no idea how much I needed her kind gesture that day. It is employees like her that has made me be more intentional about shopping in store vs online. The store itself is great and I love it. I live more that every time I walk in the store I'm going to be met with kindness employees that really care about...
