To start with their service is grossly incompetent & food was inedible!!!
We ordered couple of soups and Naatu Kozhi Varuval (country chicken fry) as appetizers and ordered parota and chicken salan and chicken fried rice for the main course.
Soups were good. In the menu it was saying “all the soups served with crunchy fried noodles” . I asked the guy who served us soups that we were missing the fried noodles on the side, he spaced out for few seconds and told me that they were out of fried noodles, when I noticed just then his colleague bringing noodles to another customer. It’s fried noodles!! You fry noodles ands serve them along with some soups. Not that you buy them fried from the store!!! It’s just so stupid of the guy to say we are out of noodles today but can serve a dish with noodles. He was super lazy!! I called other guy who took our order and asked for the missing fried noodles and he said he would check on it and never showed up!!! Our soups were getting cold so we ate them without fried noodles.
Secondly the Naatu Kozhi Varuval was a regular chicken that was tossed with different type of spices and salt absolutely was inedible and had no flavor besides being spicy and salty. I have a high tolerance to spiciness but this was not fit to eat. Supposedly Naatu Kozhi Varuval should be dry but this was semi wet. You are using the word naatu kozhi and serving them regular chicken. It’s like the menu saying we serve salmon and when ordered you receiving anchovy !!! Deceiving the customer.
Parota and salan was fine. Fried rice again missing salt and had no flavor. We had to take it home to make it atleast palatable!!! The staff is definitely spaced out, you find them receiving guests and showing to the tables and taking orders and go missing. They do not check on the guests if they need anything. But you find them walking all over the place spaced out like zombies not paying attention to the guest. The guy with messy hair, girl with glasses and another guy with little beard serving food are the ones that need proper restaurant etiquette. (They were on your Saturday night shift) We had a disappointing dinner with spaced out incompetent staff and awful food!!!
Never going back again or...
Read moreUPDATE: I've been here a few times since my last review and they seem to have fixed the smell issue. Food is always great here so I'm changing my rating from 3 to 5 stars.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: First thing to note: the food is excellent here. I've been here several times now and apart from the odd dish that did not turn out well, everything we've eaten here has been flavorful. HOWEVER, there is a very noticeable odor of raw sewage that you encounter when you enter the restaurant. You eventually get used to it but this is very unsettling especially for a restaurant. The first time I visited this restaurant was about 8-9 months ago and I noticed it then. This smell is likely coming from some botched plumbing job near the bathroom area that is allowing sewer gases to escape into the restaurant. The restaurant knows about this, which is why you will notice that they constantly have incense/agarbati burning to try and (unsuccessfully) hide the sewage smell. But this obviously does not work. Instead of putting in the money to fix the plumbing, they have let this issue go on for almost a year now (possibly longer). This is very sad, especially for a restaurant that does serve good food. I hesitate to recommend this restaurant to my friends because of the odor, and I hope the restaurant management realizes that they are likely losing other customers because of this issue. To the management: please invest in your restaurant; I promise it will be worth the money you put in to...
Read moreWe are a great fan of Madurai Mes Briyanis. The first time we ate at this restaurant, it felt like we were transported to Chennai. The food quality and taste was excellent. And we kept going back to them and the taste is consistent every single time. Not only their Briyanis, but their thali and Chinese items are delicious as well!
I normally wouldn’t write reviews but I came here to let everyone know about their catering service. I recently ordered food from them for a birthday party and I have to tell you, that their Briyani and all other items tasted exactly the same as how you would get at the restaurant. I have never had a good experience with catering order from other Indian restaurants. But Madurai Mes, made the party guests super happy. They enjoyed all the items on the menu. From Gobi Manchurian to Madras Chilly Chicken to Briyani to Fried Rice to Gravies, everything was superb. Not even one complaint. They made it as per my need. Last but not the least, the Gulab Jamuns were super soft and less sugary. Everyone packed the Gulab Jamuns while leaving the party. Try the gulab jamun once at the restaurant and see for yourself. Everywhere else, the Gulab Jamun’s are cloyingly sweet that you can’t take another bite.
Madurai Mes, I hope you continue to stay consistent with the quality and taste that you provide now for your customers. Thank you so much for taking us...
