My title: My Second Chance Wasn't Worth Giving Subtitle: Overpriced, Arrogant, Defensive and Reckless (SEVERAL dropped fine rings)
Two years ago I brought my 4.18ct Columbian emerald solitaire engagement ring to have significant work done on it from a painful divorce. I was working with a sales associate, and Kimberly (another associate) walked over, picked up the emerald to examine it without asking. She immediately dropped it on the counter--NOT on a soft, working surface. If you know anything about genuine emeralds, they are about as soft as precious stones get. She shouldn't have picked it up without asking; she should have examined it over a soft surface; and she sure as hell shouldn't have dropped it on its head. But that is one of her consistent traits.
That shock and disturbance, and how extremely expensive my work was all tolled, left me too rattled to bring any more work or precious stones/materials their way--for TWO years.
But I always give second chances when they're worth giving--retail is so fickle and poorly staffed and poorly trained that you almost HAVE to give a vendor another go, particularly after years.
So about a month ago I brought several projects/precious gemstones back to Revell. I needed a wedding band made, another resizing, an angel wing, and a replacement emerald accent stone put in a special ring I'd just acquired and never wore. All the other major irritations for the former projects aside, I'm just going to write about the latter project which has upset us the most:
I got stuck working with Kimberly again who this time managed to drop TWO of my rings: one onto the floor (a very large, genuine garnet that her colleague-apprentice Lillian picked up from the floor as they were walking when this happened); and then a HUGE, genuine citrine (flanked by small diamonds and emeralds) Kimberly dropped on its head on her desk, just like my $5000, 4 years old emerald, right AFTER she'd taken pictures of it for the order intake. If her issues are medical, I'll try to be less upset.
On that giant, citrine ring--never worn--I was having them replace a small, accent emerald as aforementioned. I asked/told a total of four employees to also "make sure ALL other stones are secured in this ring because I just got it, have never worn it, and it already dropped one of several stones." FOUR employees total--including on the day I picked up said repair, asked if that had been done, and instead of that employee (blond, middle-aged, well-dressed) going BACK TO THE GOLDSMITH to confirm, she just said, "Oh, he always does that." She did NOT go back to ask, like I requested. That small stone alone cost me $120. "It's the labor cost..." they said, along with the huge charge to size it down. So for about $350, "basically all labor", I expected my stones to be secured--that's what labor is.
But guess what?! I put that ring on, for the first time publicly--so proud and happy to finally wear it--and I went to Hy-Vee for a round of groceries, got back to my car, and when I buckled my seatbelt, I saw that another of those small, accent emeralds--a DIFFERENT one--had fallen out. So! Though I'd asked four different employees who charge an arm and a leg for labor to PLEASE give me good labor, it wasn't given. I called the moment I saw it--they were closing (3p on a Saturday??) and told me to bring it back in the next week, but that I'd be charged another $120. I couldn't believe that.
SURELY with a total order (multiple projects) for about $1600 total, they wouldn't charge me an additional $120 for their neglect.
But they sure did--and quite rudely! Today when my fiance went to retrieve it (after I did bring it back and remind them how many folks I'd asked to secure ALL stones, and I asked NOT to be charged another $120), and the custom wedding band I had made, they charged us that additional $120, and Kimberly herself basically told my fiance, "Well, once you drive a car off a lot... it's all on you.." All on me?? I'm a jeweler??!
There will not be a third chance given....

2/20/2019- I called because I'm needing copies of purchase receipts for insurance reasons after finding out that the stone in my ring is not the same size as the setting I bought was for. Why would they put a different size stone in my setting without a word about it? It's strange and I don't know why it would have been done. The employee confirmed that in their system's notes it states one size stone when bought and a different size stone after being sized! The employee I spoke to said she would fax the receipt over. They never came. I called the next morning to ask and was told by the employee that the owner told her not to fax them and they will not have any further correspondence with me because of the below negative review. The negative review was for a different piece of jewelry and service we purchased AFTER this one. (There wouldn't have been a negative review, but the jeweler refused to speak with me about work done on my purchase then as well. I didnt have much choice but to leave a negative review.) I'm so glad we took this ring somewhere else, because we wouldn't have known of the scam otherwise! I have never heard of a business refusing the customer a copy of their purchase receipts! This tells me that they are trying to hide something! We also purchased a warranty and they won't service my piece. The proper thing would be to refund for that warranty since it is THEIR choice not to service us (due to a negative review). We are now going to have to get a lawyer! PLEASE think twice and research this place before doing business with these crooks!!
The jeweler (and possibly owner) refused to size the wedding band I purchased a different size to solder it properly to my engagement ring. It looked terrible. Besides that, it was soldered crooked. Other area jewelers assured me that it's absolutely normal to have to size a band a different size to fit against an engagement ring and that they could do it no problem for me. I still have no clue why they would not do it here. The jeweler wouldn't give an explanation or speak to us, he just used the sales lady as a middle person. I left the store in tears and decided to get them unsoldered, return the band I had bought, and spend my money elsewhere. I was a returning customer and had referred several people to this store. I will never do business here again.
I would also recommend googling their name with the word "theft" behind it before doing...
Read moreI was searching for a jeweler in the quiet city area to help me custom make an urn charm for my sister who recently passed away. I searched all over the Internet and couldn’t find anything worthy of my time. I went to a few other jewelers in the area and none of them seem to have an in house Goldsmith and I didn’t like the idea of going through “third parties” since I was wanting to take my sisters wedding ring and charm that she wore around her neck to have melted down along with some other gold jewelry and diamonds I had lying around to all be used for my one of a kind custom urn charm. Everyone I dealt with at Revells Really took the time to help map out what I imagined in my head I wanted it to look like. When I went into Revells Jewelers I was greeted with great customer service from the jump. I showed them a picture I had gotten my inspiration from and they absolutely nailed it. They used all the diamonds from my sisters wedding rind and from a few other things I brought to them to make this one of a kind piece so perfect and special to me. It is 100% waterproof and I didn’t have to worry about using any jewelry glue to seal her ashes into it! I made several different phone calls for changes to my ideas along the way and they made everyone one of them come to life just how I pictured it would be. Now I have her to carry around my neck until I can pass it on to my daughter and keep her spirits live throughout our family’s future! I highly recommend Zach and Aaron they are amazing at what they do!! I found me a new jewelers for life and I’m so grateful I chose them and could trust them with something that means...
