Since the pandemic, it seems like the attitude of public facing employees everywhere has gone down. NOT HERE! Every single interaction we have had with store employees (and vendors passing through, maybe?) has been pleasant, friendly, helpful. You can tell how good a management team is by how happy their employees are to work there, so there must be some awesome people keeping this HEB running smooth, keeping their staff encouraged and feeling appreciated. Our family certainly appreciates the "good vibes" of this location and we drive out of our way to shop here, knowing we'll have an enjoyable experience and find pretty much anything we might need. Display items are always neatly arranged, the produce is fresh and very rarely have we come across overly bruised apples or mold in the berries, which is pretty rampant everywhere else, and unlike the "locally owned" grocery stores around this area south of San Antonio, this HEB has actually decent prices. Because big, impatient crowds is an anxiety trigger for 2 people in our household, we have to sometimes shop off hours, and so occasionally, we find they are out of a more obscure item we might need because it hasn't been put out yet or already sold out (like fresh organic mint springs, precut, or the chai tea mix in a box), but I feel that's more a personal issue than "the store's fault", and is the only complaint I could have. Even when we've had to shop at the prime time school-just-let-out midday into early evening hours, we've found plenty of cashiers at the registers and people actually available for bagging. There are times where self checkout is faster and easier, but I am SO grateful this is one of those more rural locations that has not yet shunted labor onto paying customers as much as they possibly can, and the cashiers and baggers have smiles and are capable of saying hello-how-are-you greetings with some sincerity. Overall, very happy, love this place, and fully recommend for other individuals and families. I've never used the pharmacy or pickup services, so can't comment to...
Read moreWe ate BBQ at this HEB this afternoon as we passed through Poteet and were vastly disappointed on a wide range of fronts. First, we fully recognize this is a smaller community and store conditions might not be expected to be quite as high as the competitive San Antonio environment we live in, but it IS HEB and our experience has generally been pretty consistent across the board, no matter the city size. It was a Sunday, too, so it was busy and sometimes store conditions fall off a bit when your primary management team might be off for the day. Regardless, from the lady who took our order, who was not openly friendly and her handling of the meat in front of us (scooping leftover trimmings off the cutting board with both hands and dumping that into the meat warmer, with pieces falling to the floor as she did so) was not appetizing, to the brisket beans that ended up being almost entirely sauce and meat fat, to the small portion sizes for what you were paying, to the fact that it was not clear where the BBQ spot was or that you had to haul your food back up to a small seating area by the front doors, to the dirty bathrooms, the very dirty windows all around the eating area that clearly had not been cleaned in a long time, and the flies in the eating area (very challenging during warmer weather, we understand; especially by the front door), it just was a disappointing experience. The produce section was also in a state of disarray as you entered the store. Compared to other HEBs, this key area needs a lot of work on presentation and keeping it up to speed on busy weekends. Stock levels seemed okay, but the appearance was dramatically different from what we were used to.
Bottom line: We love and support HEB, and know that the vast majority of the team working in this store, and every HEB, do a fantastic job daily. Clearly, though, store leadership has allowed some standards to slip and what we saw was not up to par with the HEB norm. Hopefully it was just an anomaly and it'll be better...
Read moreI used to love Heb till today when one of the managers from the store where my and my family spent most of our money by the name of Roel treated me and my son as trash. My son has a mental disability had a crisis while in the store at the end of last year. He was banned from the store. About 4 weeks ago we wrote a letter to the store asking to allow my son back in the store I was told by a staff member that he was going to get the letter to a manager and then they would call me but no one did. Today my son was parked in a corner of the parking lot which I didnt know he wasnt allowed either. I went in really quick but the lines were long. When I came out the police was there and there was a manager on the way. My son was causing no problems. I was told it was up to the manager to let him go. He took a look at my son and refused. I told him. Its my fault he is here I drove him there. My son gets very overwhelmed. And suffers from anxiety also. He told me to be quiet or he was going to have me arrested also. He said I needed to be taught a lesson I said why? Im not raising my voice or being disrecpectful Im just trying to appeal to you. He told me to do that I had to go across the street because it was private property. I never been so humilliated in my life by somebody that thinks that because he is in a place of power has the right to treat long time paying customers like trash. I am so upset and dissapointed. And my son is spending the night in jail because there was no mercy in his heart. He wasnt causing any problems. And that is my opinion. I will never set a foot in that store again. God that sees all will do us justice. And thats is my opinion and you cannot try to take that right from me also. My son has been struggling with his illnes for years. His life has been very hard. But it takes to walk a mile in someone's shoes to have a little understanding....
