I finally had the opportunity to try out True Texas BBQ for the first time a few days ago at the HEB in Pleasanton. I'll start by saying I'm beyond picky about brisket.....can't be too fatty, can't be dry or too chewy and the tiniest bit of gristle and the whole meal will go in the garbage......you get the picture. Anyway, heading in to pick up a few grocery items while visiting my niece in Jourdanton, the first thing to catch my eye was the True Texas BBQ counter just as I realized I hadn't had lunch. I grabbed a brisket plate (lean) with potato salad and creamed corn and pigged out. I'm SO glad I did!!!
The brisket was tender and flavorful, and the the spicy BBQ sauce was perfect with it. The creamed corn was the best I've ever tasted and perfect with the brisket. I grabbed my basketful of groceries and headed back to the BBQ counter to grab more for my husband's dinner that night. For him, I ordered the fattier cut of brisket, the creamed corn and the brisket beans. Of course, I sampled the beans as he happily enjoyed his dinner. Sooooooo good! It's a good thing that Pleasanton is 30 minutes away or I might never cook again. Probably going to try the stuffed baked potato with brisket next trip.
I also want to give kudos to the associates. They were so friendly and helpful, a joy to spend a few minutes with. I actually met Theresa, the pitmaster for the Pleasanton store. I learned that the BBQ was made in the store, not in a plant miles away and trucked to each location. I'll be back, for sure. It was obvious that both employees took pride in producing the best product and giving the best customer service possible. They aced both, for sure.

Read moreDon’t let the grocery store location fool you, this is great barbecue!
True Texas BBQ is grocery giant H-E-B’s foray into the barbecue world, and it’s really amazing. All the meats are smoked in-house, and are delicious. Their baked potatoes topped with different meats are extra filling. The sides are great, too, with rotating seasonal desserts being an extra treat. Staff are friendly and helpful. Pro tip: come earlier rather than later because they will often sell out of the more popular items.
My friends said : Best BBQ Meal in Texas !
We have friends who live nearby this HEB grocery store and the True Texas BBQ cafe located here is their go-to place for BBQ lunch. We ate here twice in a week visit because it was outstanding! The brisket sandwiches are extremely good! They also have a daily special posted which is a "can't go wrong" order. DELICIOUS ! The sides are very good too and very fresh. The cafe is in the HEB supermarket so it does get busy but we were always able to get a seat. HEB is also an outstanding grocery store! Makes us want to live...
Read moreYes the brisket is good, but when there’s no lean brisket at 6 oClock you Get all the way home and there’s no barbecue sauce on your sandwich after I asked twice it’s just a waste of $10 and time and gas. Lately my sandwich is been missing things that I’ve asked for like pickles and onions. The sandwiches are way too expensive to be missing half the items that I asked for. I think everyone should held accountable If they don’t do a good job I’m going to keep writing reviews until I get the food I paid for. The gentleman that always worked Before with a great attitude and always said thank you my friend he’s awesome. It seems like these kids They got working back there just don’t even care super...
