Donald's Bait & Tackle — Local services in Port Orange

Craig runs great bait shop that always does their best to provide a wide variety of live and frozen bait at reasonable prices. Scotty, Maverick, Justin, Travis and Jude are helpful friendly and willing to provide local fishing advice. I always call ahead to determine if they have what I need before I show up. They are at the mercy of the available supply, so calling ahead saves time. Scotty has great enthusiasm for fishing with some pretty good fish stories and photos to back it up. The smaller shrimp in the summer are a fact of life but Craig has a source for shrimp caught in the Halifax river that out produce west coast shrimp. Use small hooks or jig heads with hooks no greater than size 1 and jigs 1/16 oz. or less. We have caught huge fish with those smaller local shrimp and 1/32 oz jigs. Use 8-10lb. braid with 2 ft. of 17-30lb fluorocarbon leader and you will be able to cast those shrimp along the mangroves or under the floating docks to slay the snook, mangroves, flounder, etc. I always leave these folks a tip because they deserve it. They treat us like family. We are blessed with many fine tackle shops in our area with friendly helpful people. I consider myself a live long customer. i’ve been fishing this area and going to Donald’s bait shop since 1973 when it was Howards. I could not possibly give them a higher recommendation. Went in there this morning 6/24/25 to get live bait for a charter. I have one of the really nice bait box’s with the built in bubbler system to maintain the bait. I use this quite a bit and have had my bait stay alive for up to 24 hours. When my bait was put on the counter by the gentleman who Was working there I realized dead shrimp floating around in my bait bucket. I took some of the Dead shrimp out of my bait bucket and asked the gentleman to throw it away for me. The water was so cloudy and stinky. You could barely even see the shrimp and the pinfish that I had in my bucket. After driving 1.2 miles down the road a total of four minutes I got to my destination and checked my bait in which every single bait was dead. Three dozen shrimp and one dozen pinfish just shy of $30...

Staff very unfriendly manager will yell at you over the phone very unprofessional They raised all there prices and they only give you a quarter bag of shrimp for the fresh dead she told me word for word they weigh them and that’s all we get mind you she was yelling at me the entire time and couldn’t calm down or even let me speak rude was an understatement any other place would give you a full bag for $5 they’re a rip off! And they also don’t close @7 they close @6 so don’t waste your time driving up here I told her it says online they close @7 and she said I know those are our summer hours it so why tf are you closing @6? Quit being lazy and change your hours . Get better friendly staff and go back to normal prices there’s no excuse for the inflation...
