My partner and I recently moved into Sellwood. We are avid thrifters and vintage collectors. We have been trying to find pieces for our new space when we stumbled upon R Spencer’s. This place is a treasure trove of antique goodies. The family run team is very knowledgeable about all of their pieces and the history and stories behind them. I found a beautiful Gunne Sax dress that I absolutely fell in love with. We also found an amazing print, both for VERY reasonable prices. This place is not your classic “antique” store. They had a wide variety of items from vintage radios to Japanese wood cuts to rattan furniture and vintage books and even a pitcher in the shape of a clowns head. Too many great things to name and a wide price range to boot. You will find many things you didn’t know you needed but can’t live without. Everyone in your party is sure to find something they want. Oh. And... did I mention how lovely the whole family is?! Marcia was so sweet and complimented me on my outfit. It was very wholesome to see the entire family (parents and son) working together on a Saturday. You just don’t see many places like this anymore. A literal “Mom and Pop” shop. Just go in and see for yourself. You’ll be...

I am absolutely appalled by the way my friend was treated -- They reached out in good faith to sell an antique item and were met with unprofessionalism at every turn – from the ignored photo submission to the outright rudeness when they explained they were stranded without gas. To refuse to help someone in such a situation and to respond with rudeness is simply unacceptable. This isn't just bad customer service; it's a complete lack of human kindness. I urge others to take this into account when deciding where to do business. My friend deserved much better. The lack of basic human decency and the absence of any willingness to help someone in need is appalling. This reflects terribly on the business and its values. I would strongly advise others to consider whether they want to support a place that treats people this way.The lack of empathy and the poor customer service displayed are truly shocking. I cannot recommend this business and hope they reconsider their...
Read moreMr. Spencer came to my home to appraise some of my antiques in order to consider buying them. He first saw an antique china cabinet in the garage and offered me $100. I then took him inside to look at everything else. He wrote down offers on everything and I told him I would think about it. The offers were ridiculously low. I called him, leaving a message, and told him I wasn't sure about selling anything right now other than the china cabinet. I asked him to please call me to arrange pick-up for the china cabinet. He didn't return my call after a week so I called him today and he said," Well that piece isn't spectacular and I am not interested in it if there is nothing else." He had given me a verbal contract to buy the cabinet before seeing anything else, but now was not honoring his word. I wouldn't ever want to business with someone who treated me in this fashion. This is a warning to anyone who reads the "R. Spencer Antiques Buying Everything" card. He may tell you he will buy a piece, but...
