R. Spencer Antiques came down to Salem to purchase my parents 100 year old Luce Dining Room set, with 5 chairs, side board, mirror buffet, table with two leaves. They came down prepared to respect the furniture with an enclosed u-haul, moving pads, tie downs, and tools (if necessary). They recognized the value and quality of the furnishings they were about to receive. Treating this quality of furniture is important, as it isn't just some random thing to store old paint cans on in the outside rain. Their knowledge and expertise made it very easy to work with them and I highly recommend them for your antique needs either through purchasing or by selling. R. Spencer Antiques made me happy that my mom's beloved set was going to someone who respected the quality! I recommend R. Spencer Antiques.

We lucked out and found an Oz Franka painting at R. Spencer Antiques. What a score! The piece fits seamlessly with our decor, and the raised texture gives it a unique, eye-catching dimension that always draws compliments. We couldn’t believe the deal we got! We also picked up a beautiful secretary desk with glass doors featuring 13 windowpanes—something the shop staff took the time to share the history behind. They clearly care about their pieces and their customers. They even cleaned and polished the desk for us, and went above and beyond to carefully wrap and load everything to ensure it got home safely. A great experience all around!

I was in Spencer's today to look at a chest that my mother had seen. The shop is lovely and packed with really cool vintage and antique items. There was a set of dinner plates with a series of illustrated models wearing art deco era dress designs. They were gorgeous. Then there were several iron work outdoor chairs. They were in great shape and looked old and cool. The proprietor was so helpful and friendly. There prices were reasonable. It was great to see their dragon's horde of antiques, large and small. I look forward to browsing through that trove many more times!

My partner and I recently moved into Sellwood. We are avid thrifters and vintage collectors. We have been trying to find pieces for our new space when we stumbled upon R Spencer’s. This place is a treasure trove of antique goodies. The family run team is very knowledgeable about all of their pieces and the history and stories behind them. I found a beautiful Gunne Sax dress that I absolutely fell in love with. We also found an amazing print, both for VERY reasonable prices. This place is not your classic “antique” store. They had a wide variety of items from vintage radios to Japanese wood cuts to rattan furniture and vintage books and even a pitcher in the shape of a clowns head. Too many great things to name and a wide price range to boot. You will find many things you didn’t know you needed but can’t live without. Everyone in your party is sure to find something they want. Oh. And... did I mention how lovely the whole family is?! Marcia was so sweet and complimented me on my outfit. It was very wholesome to see the entire family (parents and son) working together on a Saturday. You just don’t see many places like this anymore. A literal “Mom and Pop” shop. Just go in and see for yourself. You’ll be...

Unacceptable Customer Service and Rudeness Towards a Customer in Need

I am absolutely appalled by the way my friend was treated -- They reached out in good faith to sell an antique item and were met with unprofessionalism at every turn – from the ignored photo submission to the outright rudeness when they explained they were stranded without gas. To refuse to help someone in such a situation and to respond with rudeness is simply unacceptable. This isn't just bad customer service; it's a complete lack of human kindness. I urge others to take this into account when deciding where to do business. My friend deserved much better. The lack of basic human decency and the absence of any willingness to help someone in need is appalling. This reflects terribly on the business and its values. I would strongly advise others to consider whether they want to support a place that treats people this way.The lack of empathy and the poor customer service displayed are truly shocking. I cannot recommend this business and hope they reconsider their...

Mr. Spencer came to my home to appraise some of my antiques in order to consider buying them. He first saw an antique china cabinet in the garage and offered me $100. I then took him inside to look at everything else. He wrote down offers on everything and I told him I would think about it. The offers were ridiculously low. I called him, leaving a message, and told him I wasn't sure about selling anything right now other than the china cabinet. I asked him to please call me to arrange pick-up for the china cabinet. He didn't return my call after a week so I called him today and he said," Well that piece isn't spectacular and I am not interested in it if there is nothing else." He had given me a verbal contract to buy the cabinet before seeing anything else, but now was not honoring his word. I wouldn't ever want to business with someone who treated me in this fashion. This is a warning to anyone who reads the "R. Spencer Antiques Buying Everything" card. He may tell you he will buy a piece, but...
