Henry Higgins Boiled Bagels — Restaurant in Portland

Bagels them selves are as good as it gets, this coming from a guy from the greater NYC area. I have been bragging on the place suggesting it to folks since we first started going and enjoying.

BUT! I went late in the day this SAT, I stop and get a dozen anytime I am near. They IGNORED my saying of which bagels to put in the bag, and just put all salt and plain, neither which I asked for. Just great for our blood pressure for which wife and I are on Beta blockers for! So I got 7 plain bagels we can eat instead of a bakers dozen of what I asked for for my cost. No I did not get someone else's order, I was the only customer in the store at the time. Not Good, So watch them on the to go orders, we sure will not be stopping and getting a dozen anytime we are near anymore. No excuse for them trying to keep more variety in the case and sticking we with the ones they do not want to be stuck with upon closing. Yes the ones I was choosing were in the case, albeit in low numbers. Very Disappointed with this...

Have come here in the mornings and had great experience. I enjoy the bacon egg and cheese sandwich. The eggs are always tasty, and the bacon is crunchy but not burnt. The bagels are fantastic and have the perfect chewy to crunch ratio. I wanted to show my friend this place, and we came in about 25 minutes before closing and were told they shut off the grill. Disappointing, but we still got food. I can understand 10, maybe even 15 minutes before closing. But 25 seems like a bit much. Chips weren't fantastic, but the cream cheese good. Tuna was also good. Food seemed a little left out coming at this time. Overall I will be a returning customer, but will be mindful not to come in the last 30...

Good bagels. But don't order anything other than bagel with schmeer. Had business next door and wanted to grab lunch. I ordered a pastrami sandwich on a salt bagel. Such a disappointment. The pastrami was basically inedible, there was so much gristle and it was flavoress on top of that. I ordered it without cheese, and I got pastrami, onion, and tomato on a bagel. No mayo, no mustard, despite those being listed on the sandwich menu. They also gave us a handful of kettle chips in a pastry bag. They were...
