As an obvious first time customer (with my 4year old), I would have liked for an employee to spend a few more minutes showing us the ropes, pun intended. The only recognizable employee I saw was behind the front counter, so I understand she couldn't because she had to help other customers pay and get rental equipment etc.but if there was another employee around I think they could have spent a few more minutes with us, try to upsell a private lesson or a membership or something? Besides that very small critique nothing absolutely amazing or totally disappointing about the place. What I would expect from Rock climbing gym. Also would be nice if they had a few more Auto belay/Auto descend machines. There was only two that I saw which meant those are the only two places I could climb because my child couldn't...
Read moreSolid Rock Gym is great for what you make of it. Poway is the largest of their 3 remaining gym's, tallest, most space, but again if your a serious climber you can get over run by screaming kids and birthday parties. Climb in the evenings during the weekdays. Poway has a nice weight area and showers. I used to work for SRG as a routesetter and actually miss climbing there and the people. Great for all ages and skill levels. If you really want to use muscles you never knew you had, go climb inside with a partner and don't get discouraged cuz it's nothing like you think it will be. The staff is generally helpful and are often found hanging around on the walls...
Read moreRoutes at this gym are interesting and intuitive. Boulders problems super well done. The workers are very kind and helpful. There is rocks below TR the routes rather than mats which is wild. Doesn't much matter but makes it challenging to belay barefoot. The gear is old. I'm talking grigris from the 70s. Most of the ropes are just about too short for the routes which is irritating. There was a noticeable soft spot (visual and soft when scrunched). Which we notified the receptionist but there was nothing done about it. There was also no monitoring of climbers. I noticed multiple people in rental gear using the belay devices incorrectly. Know what you are...
