I found this place by accident, driving by, and I was glad I did. I'm not sure the prices are dramatically lower than other grocery stores, but they are somewhat lower nonetheless. One way they achieve this is by selling off brand items that mimic larger brands we all know.
FYI: Their generic Cheezits taste just like the real thing. Seriously.
But that's not the whole story. The first thing you notice when you walk in is the gorgeous produce section. The vegetables and fruits just look bigger and more luscious than they do at other grocery stores.
And the next thing you'll notice is that while things are organized in their own way, until you learn the layout and where certain things are, it can seem disorganized. But it's a charming disorganized and refreshingly different, unique.
For example, just past the produce is a shelf with some cereal on it, but then on another aisle is the main bulk of the cereal, and that is the way the whole store is. I thought that characteristic was great because I never knew what I would find around the next corner or on the next aisle. Even though I'd already passed the chips, I could walk up on another section of completely different chips on another aisle.
Also, being from San Antonio, I appreciate the Hispanic influence on the products this store sells. I often miss the culture and food of San Antonio, and the spices, meats, and large pastry case all reminded me a little bit of home.
Then, when you check out, they don't bag your items. They simply scan them and put them in another basket. After you pay, you walk forward to a large table full of boxes and box up your own groceries. This is apparently one of the ways they keep their prices lower, and I enjoyed that part, too.
Combine all that with the lower than average prices, and this store becomes one I don't mind driving an extra couple of miles to patronize. Highly recommended, unless you...
Read moreHaven't been living in Pueblo too long. It's been a great experience so far especially when going shopping and running errands because people seem to be friendlier. However, upon my recent visit to this location, I was extremely turned off by the fact that I had to use the public restroom inside of the store, and after not even being in the restroom for 5 minutes, i had a manager knocking on the door claiming to be maintenance right as i was getting ready to exit the bathroom. I proceeded to hold the door for him since he said he was maintenance but he then walked away from the bathroom and followed me back to the rest of the store. This led me to believe he felt i was doing suspicious activities in his restroom. Can i just say this is HIGHLY inappropriate! Women often take slightly longer in the restroom than men. I was barely in there for 5 minutes. Don't think I'll be returning to this store. The manager is extremely...
Read moreDisappointed. I haven't been in a Save A Lot in years and did not realize that you now have to buy bags and bag your own groceries. If I had known this, I sure wouldn't have bought so much. Being disabled makes it difficult carry boxes and bags are easier. The cashier could have mentioned buying bags before pointing me to boxes so I can box up my purchase. I don't think I will go there again unless it is for one item. If they can't aren't able to at least make bags available and visible, they don't deserve my business. And the little girl cashier was pretty rude when asked about bags after seeing them post checkout. She said that I could have bought some and bagged my groceries. Not if the bags are not in sight during checkout. I do not recommend this store for...
