Being from Los Angeles, I often seek out flavors from home and the closest thing to home in Pueblo are the small burrito shops and taco trucks I normally will order my go to Carne Asada burrito, Chicken flying saucer, or Machaca but today I wanted breakfast so went off script a bit and ordered the Huevos Rancheros plate, Strawberry Churo, and Horchata, my wife had the Americanized beef Taco 🌮 (Not the actual name but what I call the hard shell beef with lettuce, cheese that most people states side consider a taco) and Chile Relleno plate, So the Huevos Rancheros pretty hard to mess up Right? Normally correct unless you do something strange like oh I don't know present your eggs in the style of oh I Don't Know "A CREPE with Yolk"! As a cook I know how hard it can be to break an egg and fry it up and I can only imagine because we ordered a 2 Chile relleno plate they used the batter from it to get a 2 for one order completed so Points for trying to stretch your food costs, the red Chile used was standard Fair bland flavorless BUT in there defense, based on location (Near an old age living facility) and possible clientele this may be the manner in which is preferred by the non Californian Older Caucasian, the Staff Was nice good customer service food was up in Great Time, looking forward to returning for a burrito but probably not the Huevos Rancheros again also I want to try the Bounce Houses They Have Advertised I WILL Return of Course to give them a second opportunity to shine and other than the lack of seasoning the Chile Rellenos were not bad, the Strawberry Churros were a bit stale hard but had a nice flavor and The Horchata was Great, but to be fair when is Horchata NOT great Except when from Golden Corral but that's another Review...
Read moreI don’t often leave negative reviews on food places but this is sub-par Mexican food. My fiancé & I moved to Pueblo from SW Mn earlier this year and we are still trying to find a taco shop that was on par with what we could find in MINNESOTA. This weekend it was Los Carnales & I must say I’m terribly disappointed. The fish is old, grey and the crisp from the oil in the frier looks like it’s from at least a month ago or more. The meat isn’t even thick enough to identify over the batter. The rice is extremely dry & has clearly not been prepared fresh. Refried beans are oddly salty & my fish was pictured with cabbage & a fresh pico. Instead I got iceberg lettuce and chopped onions. Tortilla appears store bought. Staff wasn’t rude but they also weren’t happy to indulge me with info about the menu or their specialties. I told them it was our first time in & literally zero effort was made to make us feel welcome. Surly staff. $22 for some salty refried beans and disgusting fish. Fiancé had chicken enchiladas and the were nearly inedible. The cheap plastic knife provided wasn’t nearly enough to cut the mess. Lots of flies. I can overlook a lot especially with a taco shop, but this is a culmination of a lot of negatives all under one roof. I do...
Read moreThere are a growing number of places in Pueblo walking the line between actual taco shop and standard Pueblo style Mexican fare. This one is ok. I love both styles. For health reasons though, I pretty much only eat tacos ("street tacos") anymore. I recently tried some tacos carnitas and those were pretty good. Maybe 7/10 or so.
Today I tried chicken. They were actually bad. They were served on flour tortillas. The tacos were such a dripping, soggy mess I couldn't even get them off the plate before they fell apart and spilled all over my lap. I ate what remained in my plate with a fork, after pouring all the salsa I had, squeezing two lime wedges, and mixing my pickled jalapenos in there, I finally found some kind of flavor, but I would not describe it as tasting like tacos.
I recommend avoiding any not fried tacos except carnitas from this place. I suspect any burritos or enchiladas are pretty good, but having not tried them I cannot vouch for them. I also suspect the chili fries are excellent considering almost everyone there seemed to order them; but again, I cannot voice for them because I haven't had any.
P.S. The tacos carnitas actually were...
