A value village for the birds. Not really sure you can actually call this a thrift shop, it's like a desperate trashy attempt at re-retail. Adding this after first post, read some of the 5 stars on this place...they should be 2-3 reviews most of them. Are we just giving 5 stars for dog water?
They have over or inconsistently priced items that really take the fun out of thrifting. I found 3 of the exact same bowls, same color tags one priced 7.99 8.99 the other 11.99. they were the exact same. Found a god of war funko #25 for 99$ nothing should be 99$ in a store where everything is donated, anyway....out of curiosity I checked ebay to compare, eBay has it new mint for 20$ (reasonable for a not rare collectible such as this, also note they had many other funkos for 8$ they knew what Funko prices oughta be). Though I did find a rarer version for 120$, keep in mind the one at value village was the cheap one. This tells me the people or person in the back pricing items are grabbing collectibles looking them up on eBay and knocking 5% off the highest price they see. They also have bootleg NES games for around 20$... That sell at any retro game shop for 5$. You can tell the difference between bootleg and non by comparing the metal pins in the bottom. The point of the thrift shop is the buyers get the cool story about finding something awesome, it's not fun when you paid over retail because the pricer here is greedy and or incompetent. People don't want to be ripped off for rags
What other examples? Free people clothes are picked out and hiked up to 25-35$ each. The records are covered in scratches or not even containing the record in question but they'll throw a 5$ sticker on it like they tested it. The men's jeans are stained and trashed and should be free. The store is gross, it's in a dumpy area has one unregulated chokepoint leading into a busy road, no bathroom, no changing rooms, 1 stars is too many. Imagine a goodwill boutiques...
Read moreNot sure who is doing the pricing at this place. This cute little dresser looks like it came from an antique store based off of the tag I found inside the top drawer. The previous owner had priced it at $30 which is fair given the rough condition it was in (peeling paint/wobbly legs/old smell) HOWEVER the staff at VV decided that this was actually worth $50!! And to add insult to injury, they left the previous price tag in the drawer to really let you know they don’t have an ounce of common sense. This is not to mention the Walmart and Target items that are priced nearly or at the same price you would pay in the store - these items aren’t new and they show wear and tear! I mean cmon guys! Are you making a personal profit off of the items being sold here or are you pricing the items outrageously for the fun of it? Do you remember that this is a thrift store and people come here to buy items because they may not be able to afford other stores? At this point you’re not even a thrift store, you’re priced like a consignment store, but you’re not even that because you’re selling Old Navy and Walmart items and not designer items. One more thing…the store closes at 8 pm… at 7:35 they started sending a worker around telling people (not suggesting) that they needed to head to the front of the store to check out. Not like a “hey heads up we’re closing in 25 mn” deal. No like an urgent we are closing and you need to get the heck out of here. I get wanting to leave right after the store closes because work sucks but this is a little too pushy. Do better, (bad)...
Read moreHad a phenomenal experience at this brightly lit, clean location. It is HUGE- bigger than issaquah. Sometimes I like going there because the rich folks donate their nice stuff but I found Nike and Lulu here as well. I got some great art, clothing and furniture. I was helped by some great customer service especially from this beautiful blonde woman with great style. These employees seemed genuinely happy to help and proud of their store. I will definitely come here more!
Update- though a good deal can be found (color tag sale, coupon use, and occasional great random deal), they mark things up like crazy lately. I donated a clothing rack that I paid $20 for new 3 years ago. I went back the next day and they sold it for $20. I donated other high value items lately. I don’t regret it, because their revenue pays overhead costs too and there are lovely, wonderful people who work here so I want to support that and dispose of items responsibly. But as a consumer, huge bummer that used goods can often be priced $15-35. The best items I’ve gotten here have been $3 (on sale) to $15 and that’s the heart of thrifting but this location often prices lately like it’s late 2021 and there are shortages of everything. I have mixed feelings. I’m moving away anyway so won’t be back regardless. I still got excited over the great deals I did get, which makes it accessible and fun rather than a bummer and on par with new pricing. I feel the same way about people pricing used goods high on selling apps,...
