Menards is both weird and wonderful. They have a little, or alot, of most everything other big retailers sport. However, that unusual size, color, variety, or otherwise hard-to-find thing you cant find anywhere else? Menards probably has it!
Prices are all over the map with most items on the marginal to less expensive side. They do sport an impressive 11% rebate on nearly everything you buy from em, but they make you work for it. No online submissions for this retailer. You can download and print the submission form, but you will need to fill it out by hand then snail-mail it along with your rebate stub from the original receipt to get your rebate in 4-6 weeks.
Menards is not a store, IMHO, to run in and grab something. Its a store to be wandered through and properly explored to be truly appreciated. Aisle after aisle of the unusual and often unexpected. Not to mention far more varieties of most things we can't find elsewhere.
More than once, I've entered their store, mind made up on a project and its particulars. But left with something totally different because of the options they carry. My wife thinks I'm a genius sometimes!
And that brings me to another impressive feature you see less of in big retailers, expert assistance. These folks actually approach me when I need a hand or cant quite get my idea across the finish line. Always ready with a solution or perfect item to get it done in a snap!
Menards is fun and an interesting take on all things home improvement! I just never seem to have enough time to take it all in because I find something new...

We made an online purchase to pick up in store and long story short we got home and the whirlpool bathtub we purchased was the wrong product but in the right box. We called the store and fortunately they had one of the correct items in stock but we live pretty far so we had to make an extra trip to make the exchange. When we called the store to explain the issue they were pretty disorganized and didn't know what was going on and acted like it was a big inconvenience. I also emailed customer service and their response was terrible (see below).
"I’m very sorry, but we are cash and carry, and travel expenses are for your account. We obviously have no control over where our customers live. It is your responsibility to assure your purchase is suitable for your needs before you leave the premises. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Thank you, Ray"
I didn't expect them to reimburse me for my gas but a little effort and better customer service than I received go a long way. If I have to check every item and open every box I purchase from them because they don't have quality control then that's a problem. My husband does a lot of contractor work and we're doing a full bath remodel and usually do our shopping at Menards but definitely won't be returning after...
Read moreI went to Menards in Quincy IL on 2/21/2024 I my wife and I bought some flooring and we needed a over the stove microwave range.we spoke with a representative there which showed us a whirlpool microwave 1.9 cubic inch for $268.00 we told her we wanted a stainless black one she had one delivered to the front we paid for it and took it home I went to install the next day and found it was not the right one it was the wrong color so I took it back to exchange it so they had the right one delivered to the front and when they rang it up it was $479.00 when I complained they found it was tagged wrong in the store and they wouldn't honor it so I complained to Eric the GM and all he could say is sorry I don't recommend any one shop at Menards when they treat customers this way I will never go back I recommend Home depot or Lowes they stand...
