We spent one night at the Holiday Inn Quincy during a road trip and would avoid it at all costs in the future.
I'll start with the ok/good parts. Parking was convenient. The woman who checked us in was incredibly friendly and efficient. Room was very spacious.
Now the bad. The shower, though large, had horrible water pressure. Not the end of the world, but also the least of our problems with this property. There was zero enforcement of COVID/masking protocols despite signage everywhere in the hotel. We saw dozens of guests without masks in the lobby, elevator and restaurant. If you're concerned about COVID protocols steer clear.
In the morning we went down to the restaurant/bar for breakfast. It took about 5 min to be acknowledged. The server seated us and asked what we wanted to drink (water for me, coffee with cream and sugar for my husband). She came back pretty quickly with water and coffee and we asked again for cream and sugar. 25 minutes then passed with no recognition despite us trying to flag down the server and waving at the bartender. Other tables were seated, placed orders and even got their food in the meantime. Coffee had gone cold and was untouched as he doesn't like it black so we walked out and reported the problem to the front desk who basically said "sorry, don't worry about paying for the coffee" and nothing more.
Now I don't know if this was an oversight, but given the fact that at least two of the restaurant staff clearly saw me waving them down yet ignored us repeatedly tells me it was intentional. Given the additional fact that my husband (Latino) was the only non-white person - and we were the only clearly gay couple - present, I can guess as to the reason we were treated so poorly.
We spent the following night at the Holiday Inn Quad Cities which was a fantastic experience with wonderful staff so this isn't something I put at the feet of IHG as a chain, but I'd sleep in my car sooner than return to...
Read moreOverall, I did enjoy my stay, but would never pay to stay at this hotel simply because you can hear the surrounding rooms far too well. The bathroom needs a hook for a towel. You can hang it on the door but you would need 5 foot arms to reach it from the shower. The bathroom counter had some old residue from a bottle that had sat in a couple different spots that was not cleaned off sufficiently. Gas smell in the stairwell and into the 3rd floor during our stay. Desk chair arm was broken.(forgot to tell them - room 310). No free breakfast due to the restaurant, I understand this but just mentioning so others are aware. No towels in the pool the first trip we made. Asked the front desk and he said he only had one! He gave it to me and we swiped one from the fitness center. Next trip to the pool there was only 2 towels there, one room towel and one pool towel. Pool area is older and rough but I was glad they had it. Love to sit in the hot tub. Hot tub was a great temp. I stayed with points and would not pay for this hotel because of the noise you can hear. This was a leisure trip and we watched some TV, had a few drinks, and hit the hot tub while at the hotel. None of the things I mentioned would keep me from returning except the thin walls. That is a deal breaker. Don't want to hear the kid next door all day long. Easy hotel to find. Nice big parking lot. Plenty of eating and...
Read moreThe rooms were large, the rates were reasonable, location was good, pool was a plus, parking was easy, the restaurant was good and reasonable for breakfast each day (the discount vouchers for breakfast area plus. Only complaint was the housekeeping/maid service. The first 3 days the main didn't clean the room. Called the front desk when we returned to the room and the front desk person come to the room to replenish towels, toiletries and coffee. The second day the maids didn't come again. We left about 9:30 am and returned about 5pm to find it undone. We reported it to the front desk, and the front desk person saw to it that the room was cleaned by her while we were gone for dinner. The third day we had left the room by 9:45 am and when we returned about 6pm the room again had not been cleaned I went to the front desk and advised the young man there that the room had not been done. Within 20 minutes, the young man from the front desk was ther wiy a maids cart and he replenished the towels and toiletries, the coffee and cups, and emptied the waste baskets himself. He offered to make the bed, but we told him that he'd done enough. The next 2 days the maids came while we were out during the day. Apparently there has been minimal maid staff due to covid and people not wanting to work due to unemployment benefits and supplements, making it difficult...
