My best friend who has never stolen a thing in her life has been falsely accused twice in the last year of stealing from here. My baby and her god daughter is 6 months old now., She was about a month old and I had just told my friend how costly formula was getting since we had to keep switching since my baby we thought might be lactose intolerant and I didn't go back to work for 4 more weeks. She picked up formula off the shelf to read it and try to remember what kind I told her I was currently buying. She couldn't remember so she texted me to ask then waited for me to respond, I didn't see the text for about twenty mins. By then I was in the car on my way to pick her up. So she checked out and started to walk to the door when I walked in we turned to leave when an employee came running over and stopped us and accused her of stealing formula in his words he said because in his experience people who pick up formula and put it back down tend to steal it and they were watching her on camera! OK so I pointed out to him that he just admitted that he saw her pick it up AND put it back down on camera. She politely let them search her purse and bags and the poor girl even emptied her darn pockets for them all while being humiliated and people staring at us. We got no apology just some B's excuse about how usually when someone picks it up and puts it down then walks away and doesn't buy it then they usually steal it. My friend was profiled, she was young and dressed in sweats it was rude and unprofessional what they did .. they offered no apology and I didn't know it was bad or illegal to pick up an item and read it then put it back down.. and why were they following her around on camera to begin with.??.. She was grocery shopping and she did purchase items! I'm disgusted! The second time this happened she was dressed the same way as I was taking her to a dr apt as she doesn't drive. We were rushing around so we wouldn't be late she just needed to get school snacks for her three kids and dinner and a few odds and ends when again we were stopped on our way out this time I flipped explaining this was the second time my friend was wrongly accused and profiled and humiliated in this store. This time after she showed them her receipt and let them search her stuff and I let them as well they did apologize but the excuse for stopping us was that we were rushing around?? Again when did this become bad or illegal. My friend has never had so much as a speeding ticket!! She and I have been humiliated twice in the same store for no reason. It disgusts me, so unprofessional I now shop at Walmart and Shaw's and I tell everyone else I know to do the same! Beware if you look different or apparently act a way they think you shouldn't you will be stopped and searched and...
Read moreI can get just about everything I need just by going here, including non-grocery items. Their produce is usually very fresh and there is a very good selection of organically grown items as well. The store is also laid out very logically.
I do have a few complaints, one of which is minor and the others a bit more frustrating.
As to the minor complaint there is a robotic item that goes through the store searching for needed cleanups and other store related tasks. My problem is that it always seems to be where I need to be and when it senses something or someone in the way it just stops and beeps incessantly. It also moves very slow so if you're behind it it can take a long time to get down a single aisle. Also if you're behind it and it stops short because someone came out of an aisle in front of it you can crash into it and injure yourself.
My major complaints are as follows: 1) Lack of open registers during predictably busy hours and days. 2) Lack of baggers. Many aisles don't have them and disabled people like myself can't bag our own items.3) Both the cashiers and the occasional baggers they do have are very poorly trained at how to correctly pack a bag or a cart. It seems that they don't know basic shapes and how they fit together, ot that you don't pack bread or eggs on the bottom of a bag with heavy items on top.
My absolute biggest complaint is that during normal business hours many of the aisles are blocked with pallets of items that need to be restocked. And there is usually no one around doing the restocking. This is something that should be done overnight when the store is closed.
If you want fresh groceries and a one-stop place to get most other items I recommend this store. If you are in a hurry, are disabled or both you may want t...
Read moreBeen going here awhile and what I saw today was disgusting and as a manager for an account that works in retail food service,I have to leave this review. I had to use the restroom first when I got there and as I was entering the bathroom,a Stop n Shop employee was leaving. Now my experience in food service has me immediately glance at his hands. He was still wearing his clear food handling gloves! Anyone who has ever worked in food service has repeatedly been drilled that YOU HAVE TO CHANGE YOUR GLOVES whenever you leave your station to do anything! Especially if you are using the restroom! It's not only obviously disgusting but it's a HEALTH VIOLATION! So when I got out of the restroom,I wanted to go see where this worker was stationed at.He was preparing food next to the deli behind the retail "to-go" items. Still wearing the same gloves he had while touching food but to make it worse,he continually kept rubbing his nose with those gloves! Now as a manager I understand how difficult is running an account this large and hoping your employees retain important training related to health risks but seeing this I had to leave this review .If a representative of Stop N Shop or a management employee who works at the Quincy. (Southern Artery) account reads this,I noticed this around 3pm on New Years Eve and the employee was stationed near the deli. Its worth taking care of this now before an actual health inspector puts a red flag on your...
