I have been a resident of the Jefferson community for two decades. On many occasions Iāve had to use this facility due to urgent crisises. I have 3 children, and I myself have a very unique and serious autoimmune disease that attacks my organs & nervous system! I am a regular patient of Johns Hopkins and survived several comas. Iām explaining this to give context to my latest horrific experience! The āphysiciansā which I believe are actually residents, with exception of one outstanding man who conducted himself completely opposite of the rest and was 3 times as busy, were dismissive, arrogant, and counterproductive! (Maybe I should say the leader of these residents fit that description and the rest were kind of just all standing there like students do... the āleader being the man of smaller stature and glasses .. Iām sure you know whom Iām referring to!) I have had decades of experience with my illness and how to prevent episodes from leading into pulmonary arrest and coma! I was very verbal with this fact to ensure my proper treatment! Yet, these resident physicians literally lied, stopping my iv medication & ( Solu-Medrol) / saline solution!!! This is the printed treatment on my medical alert bracelet but they KNEW BETTER!!!! I had begun to improve with the treatment, but as soon as improvement started, I immediately began to worsen again... and got worse than when I came in!! I had to threaten to check myself out, and question the nurses as to my medicines .. finally I learned YES THEY CUT MY MEDICATION INTO ALMOST NOTHING!!!! All so they could say they were giving saline but it was maybe a bag change per day... and the steroids were no longer dispened! My Hopkins doc was PISSED! I was beside myself! They were paying with my LIFE, and for WHAT??? Why??? Lying!!! So the one physician returned and FIXED THE MEDICATION ISSUE!!! I again IMPROVED DRAMATICALLY! He comes back to check in with me, Iām doing great (I was in the ICU by the way on 6 Ltrs of O2) we even move me down to one ward under the ICU because Iām improving!!! Then the RESIDENTS returned, and what did they do??? THE SAME EXACT THING!!!! I WITHIN HOURS STARTED GASPING FOR AIR! I NEEDED THE OXYGEN CRANKED BACK UP! I NO LONGER COULD GET MOVEMENT IN MY CHEST! I STARTED GETTING WORSE AGAIN! I COULDNT UNDERSTAND WHY THIS WAS HAPPENING??? Then I had the new nurse REVIEW the medicine dispensed and how much.. and guess what? THATS RIGHT, THEY DID IT AGAIN!!!! Except this time it was antibiotics and the iv saline they stopped as well as the steroids!!!! Why was I even THERE! So I had enough! MY HUSBAND WAS PISSED, I WAS UPSET, and the resident āheadā comes into my room. He is condescending, and repeatedly says how āyou women are emotional and hysterical! Stop being hysterical!ā Are you serious? HE TRIED TO KILL ME NOT ONCE BUT TWICE AND ME SAYING IVE HAD ENOUGH IS HYSTERICAL? Now mind you, I canāt be loud, or move much because I canāt breathe! So, Misogyny at its finest! Wow! Great job Jefferson! My FEMALE DOCTOR AT HOPKINS WAS DISGUSTED! THE NURSE WENT AND GOT THE PHYSICIAN WHO HAD BEEN TREATING ME! She didnāt say a word just went and got him as I was packing my stuff and grabbing my portable oxygen tank so I wouldnāt be killed! (FYI, THE NURSES WERE ALL MAGNIFICENT KNOWLEDGEABLE, CARING AND FRIENDLY! UNLIKE THE RESIDENTS WHO SHOULD BE GOING THE EXTRA MILE TO HAVE BEDSIDE MANNERS!) My son is studying medicine and Iām a retired medical professional! So in conclusion, your nursing staff is your backbone! (I of course brought them a huge basket of gifts thanking them for their kindness and hard work! I also made absolutely clear that the resident physicians that assisted me, were not to help themselves! No way!) I understand this is a ālearning facilityā but come on! This was really bad! Iāve also launched a series of complaints against an physician in your ER that you refused to address! You rather attempt to make excuses to cover his inappropriate behaviors and inadequacyās then have appropriate patient care! He was monstrous to my 11 yr old...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have gone to this hospital for bloodwork, ultrasounds, non-stress tests, and labor and delivery of my baby boy. I have heard of horrible reviews about the hospital, but it is located two blocks away from where I live and decided to see for myself if this is as horrible as everyone is saying it is. I guess it depends on what you are there for, but I've had no issues with the hospital regarding bloodwork, ultrasounds, non-stress tests, and labor and delivery of my son. The lab draw ladies and gentlemen are very nice and were a great help for me! I had gone for a three hour glucose tolerance test and, after an hour, I was very dizzy and needed to lay down. They offered up their chair in one of their blood draw rooms where I could recline and rest and checked in on me often to ensure I was doing ok. I had gone for an ultrasound at the hospital, and after a usual wait time, I was in for my ultrasound. They were very efficient and let my husband in the room with me to hear our baby's heartbeat and see what the little peanut looked like! Though they didn't print out a picture for us, our cellphones took a picture of the monitor quite nicely! I had many non-stress tests, as I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. The maternity ward ladies were very informative and answered all of the questions I had while I was being monitored and were very supportive in my decision for a natural childbirth. The only issues I really had with any of the tests were to 'blame' on a stubborn little boy inside of me not wanting to cooperate for the stress tests (he constantly moved, which did not do well as the doctor wanted 20 minutes of constant report), so I was there for 1-2 hours each time. I also went in for the Rhogam shot, and had no issues with wait times (the usual 15 minutes or so that, to me, is expected) and was out fairly quickly. I was in the hospital from March 16th through 19th for a nonstress test, which led to me being admitted because my OB didn't like how my son was reacting to the tests (nothing was wrong with him, the OB was just being cautious). I was induced March 16th in the evening with half a pill of Cytotec(sp?). That was all that was needed thankfully and I ended up giving birth March 17th to a healthy baby boy with the only drugs being the Cytotec to induce me and 5mg of a drug to help my cervix relax, as I was pushing before my cervix was fully dilated (it could have swollen my cervix shut leading to a c section which I was adamant on NOT getting!). I had a med free active labor with almost all of the nurses as well as my OB in the delivery room with my family (I was the only patient there). My only issue with that whole stay was that I did not want to deliver on my back, and that is the position they had me in (they called it "half reclined" which, to me, is on my back!). Other than that, they were very helpful and supportive and I had an...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI came in over the weekend with an abscess. In person I was treated very well. The nurse, doctor and triage nurse were very kind. I was told to call if anything changes or if I need advice. Over the weekend it busted. Gross. They gave me antibiotics at the time but did not tell me what to do if this happened. I called because it's draining. I can't drive. I rely on the kindness of others to go into town. I called, as I was told to and was told, they can not tell me anything and that I just needed to make a decision. They saw me less than 48 hours before. They have my record, and because they referred me out, im still an active patient because they need to interact with the specialist. I have no medical education. I have no idea what the next step is, and it's a bit scary if im being totally truthful. I called the specialist, and since they never saw me, they can't give me any information or advive. Valid. They told me to call the ER and talk to someone who can bring up my chart. I feel like I was treated like a number, an insurance payment. The two RNs I spoke to had no empathy and spoke to me in the coldest manner. Empathy should be a hallmark of health care. I'm a mental health advocate and well aware of our patient rights. They refused to give me the first names of the nurses I spoke with so that I could lodge a complaint with their on-site patient advocate. It was very sketchy. I can't say what they were thinking, but when there is a lack of transparency, there usually are also poor ethical standards being upheld. People who are not rying to cover themselves are typically more forthcoming. I care about patients. WE ARE PEOPLE! WE ARE NOT NUMBERS! WE HAVE FAMILY, SOULS, WE LOVE, WE BREATH! WE DESERVE TO BE TREATED AS SUCH! If you can make it to Martinsburg or Winchester, I highly suggest it. Your rights are not safe at Jefferson Medical Center. If something happens, YOU WILL NOT get the justice, compensation, or accountability you deserve. Thankfully I'm a smart fella and I followed up with my primary who had no idea about what was going on. He only sees me once a year. He helped! He gave me no excuses and didn't even make me schedule an appointment so he could charge my insurance. He is a good doctor. He could hear in my voice that I was worried and responded ethically and professionally. He had my health and my...
