I was at the Mira Loma shopping center grabbing some groceries and noticed a watch repair sign near the Raleys entrance. Being a certified watch junkie I had to go in. A nice but modest operation, at least from the front, and I was quickly greeted by Jim, the watchmaker. It has been ages since we had a competent watchmaker in Reno, so I was hopeful. I quickly realized that Jim was very knowledgeable and understood completely everything that was part of our discussion. The next day I brought over a somewhat unusual vintage wristwatch to have Jim service. He gave me a reasonable quote and I left it with him. He also advised me right up front that he was a one man band and therefore didn't make any promises about when it would be done, but that it would be in the order that it came in. Having sent many watches all over the country I am fully aware that sometimes it takes awhile to source one particular hard to obtain part to do a complete and professional service. The last thing any watchophile wants is for a service to be done less than complete, because the watchmaker was more interested in getting your money than patiently waiting until the correct part becomes available. This is particularly true of vintage pieces, and anyone that is in this watch collector world is fully aware of this aspect of the "hobby". I mention this, because I think anyone who cares about their family treasure should know that it is not a good thing to rush a craftsman who is intent on making your watch run like new.
Anyhow, I got my watch back in a couple of months, and it is running very nicely indeed. Watches are like the engines in your car...they periodically need to be cleaned, lubed, and adjusted. Now I do not have to send one of my prized timepieces to Pennsylvania or Ohio to get a...
Read moreThe worst customer service and business etiquette I have ever experienced by an owner and staff. They make you pay for the repair up front and they take more than their sweet time having you wait and wait and wait for your repair to be done. They have had my watch for over a year and I have had to fly back to Reno and show up in person only be told excuses as to why my watch wasnât done. And each time, he tells me that my watch is on the repair table and next to be done. This has happened over 5 visits. The reason I have to show up in person is because they donât pick up their phone calls and when you do get someone on the line they tell you that they will call you when itâs ready and more months go by without any correspondence. It is actually not only unprofessional but criminal how they they hold your broken watch and take your money up front and they donât perform any work for...
Read morenot a huge fan of writing poor reviews , however my experience with five star jewelry wasnât the best. took my rope chain to get it repaired by them and was charged $100 for a repair that lasted 1 week before it was on the brink of breaking again. very disappointed since itâs one of my favorite pieces to wear, however when the repair guy said not to wear anything heavy with my chain, i knew right away the repair wasnât done correctly. i feel i was overcharged for the work they did and now im having to ship it out to the jeweler i bought it from to get repaired correctly. it sucks since iâve been looking for a valid jewelry store who offers quality repairs here in reno but unfortunately this one didnât meet my...
