The quality of the AYCE Sushi places in Reno is very similar probably because the fish is from the same source. O'A is no exception.

It's a relatively small, simple and clean dining room with maybe 8-10 bar seats. Nothing fancy. Service is good and friendly and prices are in line with most other places but a bit better value due to their AYCE punch card which gives a free one every 10 effectively giving you 10% off. Beer is included on Mondays and Sake Tue-Thur.

Selection is standard AYCE. Sushi rice is a bit over seasoned (pretty sweet.) Fish to rice ratio on the nigiri is average.

Roll selection is decent but strangely about 1 out of 4 rolls have cream cheese. Like most all other places, most of the rolls are largely variations incorporating fake crab (which is made of Pollock fish) with mayo and/or teriyaki (eel) sauce on top satisfying that American palate that craves salt+sugar+fat and/or is otherwise squeamish of eating large pieces of raw fish as found on the nigiri sushi. While there are a few rolls without fake crab, you won't find some common traditional Japanese sushi rolls like the Negihama (yellowtail and green onion) or the Salmon Skin roll. The rolls are pretty large so you get full fast on rolls unless you share or opt for the hand roll form (which I prefer) or stick to mostly the Nigiri (as I do.)

If you don't need an upscale atmosphere, don't have a large group (over 6) and want a good value, this is a...

I'd heard good things about this restaurant, so my daughter and I gave it a try today. Upon walking in, we were greeted by everyone, which was nice and welcoming. Our waitress was very nice and attentive, but the man helping out made us feel very rushed. The sushi rolls and nigiri tasted fresh and they tasted good, but there was nothing special about them or their presentation. Other sushi restaurants like to make their dishes stand out and most of their dishes look amazing, but we didn't find that here. The place filled up quickly for lunch, as it's not a very big place. Maybe, this was the reason why the man made us feel like we were holding up a valuable table. We were never asked if we wanted more to eat. We asked him for another paper to fill out, because my daughter wanted something else, so she wrote down two more appetizers. I was still eating, so I wasn't ready to order anything else, "yet". After a couple of minutes of eating the appetizers, I was getting ready to ask for another paper, when he asked if we wanted ice cream (which is before you leave). Never once, asking me if I wanted another roll or anything. We politely said no to the ice cream, so our waitress hurried over with our bill. Everyone was so nice at first, but then their actions made this a pretty bad experience. Unfortunately, we won't...

I will start by telling you what I like. The rolls were all good that I tried. Their mussels were ok but not the best I’ve had. The service was excellent. Everything tempura was really crispy, hot and fresh fried. Very enjoyable. And I love the fact that they don’t serve too much rice. Each roll had very little rice and nigiri had a very small pad of rice that was completely covered with fish. I really appreciate that and would say that other sushi places should do the same thing instead of filling you up with rice. What I didn’t like: very few rolls that didn’t have cream cheese. For someone who doesn’t like cream cheese there are very few options. I struggled to find more than a few rolls that didn’t have it. The “dinner maki” rolls I didn’t trie because they either aren’t available until 3 pm or they were going to charge my entire table for dinner prices to try anything from the dinner roll selection. The price was crazy high especially for kids. After paying $80 for 2 adults and a child I felt it wasn’t worth the price. If they at least served all the rolls all the time and didn’t have specific dinner rolls it would be better but they charge too much to nickel and dime you on a few choices from their menu. Would I go there again? Probably not. It was good but there are better places down the street...

Best sushi joint in Reno in my opinion for three reasons. First, The service is absolutely on it! We've been here twice now and each time the ladies waiting on tables are so kind and are always paying attention from afar to see if you need more drinks or another sheet or whatever. By far the best I've seen in Reno. We loved Ohana before, but man is their service awful. O'A showed us the light. Second, the food is great! Always fresh and very flavorful. The Bomb was my favorite. It comes out fairly quick which is rare for many sushi places. Haven't tried a roll we didn't like. Don't sleep on the sweet potato rolls like the Crazy Dream. Very good. Third was the atmosphere. Smaller place, but quiet enough to talk at hushed volumes and hear the person across from you. Very rare for a sushi place. Very impressed all around.

I’ve been gatekeeping this place because although the place is small and is no frills, the service is really excellent and the sushi always fresh. At least every time I go there. I really like how their staff is so friendly that they take time to talk to you even though they’re busy. And the chefs…I just have to say that they are very accommodating. If there’s something you want that’s not on the menu, just ask and they will try their best to accommodate. I do not like any sauce or mayo at all and they are really good at making sure I didn’t have any in all of my orders. They even ask if you’re ok with certain ingredients before serving your order to you. I especially like the fact that the portions are just right, and not too much rice. Perfect balance of fish and rice. I definitely like eating here.
