It was a sunny firiday morning when i told dad all my friends were going to Roller Kingdom and i wanted to go too. With a bright innocent smile i waited as he removed his glasses and raised his head from the desk to give me his answer, time moved slowly. As his slight sad brow made itself appereant my happiness wavered...and then i heard those words: "sorry son i have work to do i cannot drive you there, maybe next time." Anger started to rise withing but it quickly faded, my slighly more mature age allowed me to control the childish tantrum surging within, i received permission to play videogames for longer and some chocolate. I was content, dad was fair to me and i still got to enjoy the weekend, blissfull ignorance did not allow to see the fate that decision would lay the foundations for.
As time passed the opportunities to go to Roller kingdom became fewer and fewer, many of my friends moved on to playing sports in a club or arcades, my chances for salvation dwindled alongside them. I was a young man that had no opportunitie to say no to strangers with candy, drugs, unwanted preganncies and gangs. as i was talking to a few classmates outside school an old man approached and invited us to spray paint his bridge, the other kids quickly said no and left... but i never went to Roller Kingdom... As I was readying the paint can a van quickly pulled up besides me, a stranger quickly emerged from the noisy sliding door offering candy... and i never went to Roller Kingdom. A few weeks later i started to feel naseous and putting on weight fast... as weeks turned to months i understood what was happening, hurt and confused i asked another kid's dad for help, he dressed weird but other adults seemed to respect him. The man said he could give me some stuff his friends sold that would make me feel better, i just needed to give him my allowance... as i gave him the money my mind wandered to Roller Kingdom one last time...
place can be pricey...
Read moreI have been to roller Kingdom many times and have had a very positive opinion on this business. But due to a couple things that happen in my recent visit, I have changed my mind. The workers are completely disrespectful with an exception of one or two. The place is in need of a remodel. (maybe even a wrecking ball) Since they recently increased their prices, you would think they would have enough money. Many machines aren't even plugged in, and a lot are broken. But what really disappointed me about roller kingdom is that while I was waiting for my ride, a group of 4 or 5 girls walked in. When they went to pay, the staff did not allow them to enter the doors due to their "personalized clothing" as in their case, they were denied access due to their stomach showing crop tops. Although you might have a different opinion than I do, this was a very stupid rule. Also, if you entered the doors you would find somewhere close to 10 to 15 girls wearing crop tops too, some junkie teenagers who smelled of weed and alcohol, and I even came across a drunk women causing a scene. But the girls were denied access and the drunk woman was not? The staffs "excuse" was that 'stomach showing was not appropriate for small children.' But what small children are going to be skating around during the skate session 10:30 to Midnight? How are stomachs "inappropriate" to little kids? Everyone has one, nothing new. The DJ also played the same song about 5 times just during the time I was there. (7:30 to 10:30) Due to the following, I give this business a 2 out of 5. Mainly because this is the only skating rink that I know of in the Reno/Sparks area. Oh, I forgot to mention that these are just a few reasons that Roller Kingdom is, in my opinion, not so great. - A 13...
Read moreI went Sunday evening for adult night. There was no AC, it was very hot and stuffy. The man who was giving us our skates got in a fight with his boss while we were in line, then took his frustration out on every customer. We were a party of 4, and even though we were directly in front of this guy at the counter, he shouted “NEXT!” right in our faces after helping each one of us?? I won’t shame a place for being busy, but the rink was incredibly crowded and the skaters were rude and disrespectful to the other skaters around them. Rocketing around the rink and shooting the gap between other skaters who were clearly trying to learn. Shooting out of the rink without any mind to the people around them and was ran in to by someone within the first 5 minutes, before I could even get in the rink. The music all comes from one central speaker that when you stand near is so loud you can’t even hear yourself think. But you have to stand near or in front of it, because it’s right at the entrance to the rink. An incredibly unwelcoming environment, ESPECIALLY to those with special needs. I have ADHD and Autism, and between the loud music and crowds and lights, I almost had a panic attack. I understand that there’s a sensory Sunday…. ONCE A MONTH. Remember people, people are neureodivergent every day of the year, and deserve to experience the world as often as you do, without a time limit. As a whole this an incredibly upsetting and poor experience. As someone in the skate community, and as a person just trying to have fun with my friends. This was my first time here, and I will not...
