I have been trying to cancel my membership for over a year now. My original contract started January 5, 2019 and expired on February 4, 2020. I notified the gym manager on January 7, 2020 that I would not like to renew. However, the renewal was still processed and I have been incorrectly charged since then. I have tried to resolve this issue multiple times throughout the year, but yet I continue to be charged.
Since I started my membership, there have been 4 different gym managers. This has made getting resolution almost impossible. Further, when I did talk in person with one of the managers, he indicated my contract had been renewed for 3 years, which is patently false. I can only assume there are bad intentions behind this relationship and that Anytime Fitness intends to extort as much money out of me as they can.
As of the writing of this review, I am still being charged on a monthly basis and I am now owed almost $500 for charges that should NOT have occurred. There is no excuse for this type of business behavior in today's world.
EDIT IN RESPONSE TO BUSINESS OWNER: Yes, I did sign a cancellation form in Tim’s office. This was a few months after my contract was renewed incorrectly (partly due to the pandemic forcing the gym to close for two months). This was also when I was told my contract had renewed for three years, which is just untrue. Unfortunately I did not get a photocopy of the cancellation for my records as I did not realize I would not be able to trust the business to respond in good faith.
EDIT ON 3/2/21: I have heard from the company and have received a refund for charges after I signed the cancellation paperwork. I am updating my review to 3 stars because the company did work to fix the problem. However I cannot update to 5 stars because I don’t think it should take a bad Google review to get action...
Read moreThis is a good jym. Good facility and friendly staff. As far as equipment and service is concerned, I have no complaints.
However, please beware of the contract. I was foolish and didn't read every word. If you sign up, the only way to be released from your contract is to prove yourself unable to continue (disability, death). Anytime Fitness will continue to charge your account until your contract is up.
I have had recent digestive issues that make it difficult for me to eat and exercise, all going back to acid reflux for which there is no "doctor's note" (which is what the manager asked for when I asked to cancel my membership). On top of that, I also explained that my financial situation is not well and that continuing to pay for this monthly membership is both expensive and a waste of money as I cannot continue to attend. All she could say was that there was nothing she could do. I don't know if that meant that her hands were tied, or if she simply would not release me from the contract. Either way, most other gyms I've talked to would simply charge a cancellation fee and be done with it.
This isn't as much a complaint about Amber as it is about the contract, which I should have read. However, I've also heard that the strictness of the contract in many cases is dependent on the owner of the given Anytime Fitness facility. If that is true, this manager is one that won't release you from your contract.
So now I'm stuck paying $42 a month for a gym that I don't go, all because of my own foolishness. But sometimes it's nice to have a little wiggle room, even when you make a bad decision. Unless you're absolutely sure you want to commit time to this gym (no foreseen health or financial issues), I recommend going to another gym that is more lenient on their contracts and charges...
Read more(there is a lot to read open it up) Very disappointed with provided service!!! Anyone except Amber Williamson, please contact me. Because she is not deciding something. STOP DOING THAT.
When I came to gym first time and Signed contract Amber Williamson did not tell me that the contract is for a year, it is my fault also I do understand that I have to read. But it is logical that staff explaining to me what I am signing. If i would know that it is a contract I wouldn't go for that.
After couple months, without knowing that I have a contract I came to gym and told that I am leaving to Buffalo NY, and Amber Williamsom told me well you have contac and if there is no gym there we will stop it. I send email which she gave me from my employer that I am leaving by the work.
No response till today (05.14.2019), and I am getting an email that I haven't been for long time in gym!!!
Whats going on? With that question I called to Amber Williamson, she told that we reviewed your mail a d decided to not stop your contract!!!
WHY NO ONE INFORMED ME OR RESPONDED TO MY EMAIL!!! YOU WERE TAKING MONEY ALL THESE MONTHS AND DID NOT TELL ME THAT!!!
I checked my bank account and find out that you were taking money every month!!!
These is not what I was expecting from you.
Please stop that, Amber Williamson is a completely different story, she is working there and I had talks right...
