I can see carts for miles and miles. What a difference two days makes. Their grand opening was last Thursday so we went on Saturday and I had no issues. Prices were relatively inexpensive and the employees were all very nice. Okay now two days later I go back and it's like the employees from the grand opening are now gone and they're replaced with employees that have no clue what they are doing. I blame management and I really hope this is addressed before it becomes a real issue like the Giant Eagle has with their store in Mayfield Heights that cannot keep a store manager and has two employees running roughshod over everyone. I don't understand why you would have your Frederick's corned beef at $10.99 on Saturday and two days later hike the price to $12.99. Where's the honeymoon period? No, seriously you want customers to be loyal and yet this is how you treat them? Plus being that the grand opening was literally just a week ago why are the shelves already empty? Why does the bakery only have raisin bagels, Asiago bagels and Pride bagels? Who is doing the ordering for this location and why aren't they doing a better job? Why did no one tell the employees that the scooters needed to be plugged back in otherwise customers won't be able to use them. I kept hearing from employees we just opened and it's like okay and yet isn't it too soon to already be making excuses? I never ran into these issues when I went to Meijer stores in Columbus so why aren't the stores in Northeast Ohio being managed as well? I tried to call the Richmond Heights store but their automated system kept me in an endless loop. I finally got someone at the Seven Hills location who transferred me and when I finally got someone who claimed to be a manager on the phone and I mentioned the issue with not being able to call through she clearly could have cared less. Is this what their attitude is going to be when any issue large or small arises? Oh and for all the people who swear by their fried chicken I gotta say Giant Eagle is far superior and I am not a Giant Eagle fan by any stretch of the imagination. They didn't even cut off little pieces and parts of the chicken which you never find on Giant Eagle or Miles Market fried chicken. It's the little things that are what make people loyal to a particular store/brand and Meijer is failing and doesn't seem to care or aware of what's happening . And what's up with the over flowing cart corrals? Overflowing to the point that you had to make a point of driving around the carts that were sticking out into the actual parking area. Look at the picture I am attaching. I did when leaving see two employees together collecting carts, but it made no sense why it was taking two people to deal with one corral especially when the one right across from it was also overflowing. I can speak from experience when I used to work at Big Bear it's a one person job unless of course you'd rather act like you are working while not actually doing anything. We used to like the Mentor Meijer then the pandemic happened and their incredible selection went bye bye never to quite return. I finally spoke to someone about that and she said that I wasn't the only one who had noticed their depleted selection. She said Meijer unlike a large chain like Giant Eagle doesn't have their own trucks for distribution and though I guess during the pandemic I get that why years later is the selection in Mentor still not what it was before the pandemic? I was really looking forward to a new grocery store changing the trajectory in this area (especially since the Marc's in Mayfield Heights made the stupid decision to close their deli), but if Meijer corporate doesn't start to pay attention to what's happening at their stores, especially their newly opened stores, then I guess nothing will change and it will just continue to be the same old same old which is just not...
Read moreI went on Monday morning of the 18th. I live just down the road and my primary grocery store is Dave's Market across the street. I'm very happy there's now a nearby store with massive selections of items, especially clothes. I will say that the section for Asian cuisine was about the same size as Dave's, although I don't think Dave's has ever had miso soup. Meijer had cheap Meijer brand sauces which were a plus.
That said, they were out of quite a bit there. To be fair every employee I saw was working, most restocking (aisles are wide and clean!), so I want to give the benefit of the doubt that management is still learning what inventory they need to order the most of. I got the last jar of pearl couscous which was great - that's not at Dave's. But they were out of a lot of Meijer brand stuff, and maybe that's the fault of the corporation more than this particular store. They should expect people to flock to the cheapest stuff in this economy.
Most everything at Meijer was cheaper except milk and some produce. Food Club brand pasta is the exact same price as Dave's, but Meijer has their own brand for cheaper - they were out of some of their pasta product. Eggs were $3.99 compared to Dave's $6-$10 that I've seen. Meijer brand milk was still 10 cents more than Dave's brand. I couldn't get a very good look at their mushrooms because someone was restocking, but I didn't spot a package less than $4, when at Dave's they have some at $3.50 or less. Asparagus was on sale, but the non-sale price is the same as Dave's per pound. Packaged meat was better priced, however Dave's has that value section where you can get meat (usually only pork) for $2-$5. Meijer also didn't have a great sale for pop - it was $5 off if you buy 5 boxes of 12 cans. I live by myself so 5 boxes is way too much. I much prefer Dave's usually offering to buy 3 boxes for the price of 2.
Overall, Meijer wins. I wish Dave's used the money they had to renovate to figure out how to cut costs instead. I see myself still shopping at Produce Place on Mayfield for fresh produce, but Meijer for...
Read moreI was so excited to have a Meijer near my house. My partner and I went opening night. We had a great shopping experience and were raving about the place until we got to self-checkout.
A staple sticking out of the packaging on a dog toy cut my hand while I was bagging it. I started bleeding on the register and the floor and could not find assistance for several minutes. I got queasy and lightheaded and was on the floor next to the register with my vision blacking out.
After several minutes passed, I ran to the restroom and got sick. An employee left two bandaids on the restroom counter and left me there alone laying on the floor. An employee told my partner he was not to leave the register. I was unable to put the baindaid on myself in my lightheaded state and tried to leave the bathroom to get help but collapsed on the floor outside the bathroom. No one came to help. A woman (not sure if she was an Meijer employee or a customer) chastised me for being in the way of her photo shoot and told me to move to get out of the shot. Eventually I found a bench to sit on while my partner remained at the register for several more minutes.
The lack of compassion or response to my emergency was appalling. It went beyond poor customer service and felt like a total lack of human empathy. We were told to wait at the register for at least 20 minutes without any assistance, despite my condition and clear need for help. When we left, with not so much as an apology, the blood had still not been cleaned up, and another customer was approaching the register to use it.
I left with a little less faith in humanity and over $300 in groceries. I won't be spending my money here again, and I urge you to get your emergency...
