This was my first time visiting this store. My friend had decided that he wanted to purchase a firearm. He did some research and knew exactly which one he wanted. It said on the sportsman’s website that they had it in stock. So we decided to make a trip to Roanoke for the day. We arrive and the firearms department was a bit busy. We waited around 30-35 minutes for an associate to be available to purchase the gun that my friend had wanted. He told the guy what he wanted and they started all of the paperwork. We were informed that there was a delay with the background check, so we decided to go run some errands in the meantime. They sent a text when my friend’s background check was clear and that we could come back to purchase the gun. We headed back to the store and back to the firearms section. The section was still a little busy, but not as busy as it had been earlier. It was about 4:40 PM. We stand there waiting for someone to acknowledge us. One gentleman is helping an individual and two other gentlemen are kind of just conversing with people. About 10 minutes go by and no one has acknowledged us. I start to get annoyed, because someone could have at least acknowledged us and said that they would be with us in a moment. One gentleman in particular was sitting behind the counter going on and on with a guy about random things. From marriage to man caves to just about everything. I ended up speaking up and saying “I’m sorry to interrupt, but we need to pick up a gun. His background check cleared and we are not from the area.” The guy looks at me and says “well I can’t help you. I’m out of here at 5.” Someone overheard me and finally someone else came over to help. The guy who said he couldn’t help because he was leaving could have definitely helped when we first got there.. instead of blatantly ignoring us to continue a conversation. It would have been helpful to know that he wasn’t willing to work until 5 about 10 - 15 minutes ago. The customer service here is just terrible. I understand what that everyone wants to go home when their shift is over, but that was NOT the way to handle a customer. Read moreWe visited last week 11/5/2013. I have a complaint and I have praise. Firstly, the praise. This place has everything. I mean EVERYTHING! Myself and my dad got quite a few things here and the price isn't so bad. I really liked that. But i wasn't happy with the service to much, mainly because of one person. We were looking around in the clothing dept and this little chinese girl walked up to us and asked us if we needed help. My dad replied "do you work here?" She said to my dad "yes, i do" My dad said "I asked because you didn't have work clothes on or a name tag" She said "I don't need them" My dad said "I think you should have them" or something like that, then he asked her where she was from. The girl replied "i'm from Taiwan". They then proceeded to talk about some of the clothes while I was looking around. I wasn't far away and I could hear them, during their conversation, at some point- my dad asked the girl her name. She said "I can't tell you" I then approached and I asked her the same question. She said "I'm not telling you my name, ok" She continued by saying "I don't tell anyone my name, no customers know my name". This chinese girl acted as if me and my dad were strange stalkers or something. I didn't like that at all, and it made our shopping experience a little uncomfortable. This little chinese girl, whoever she is, probably needs to learn to be a little more hospitable and learn not to be awkward. Yes the store staff are great (mostly) but the corporate side or online sales are beyond incompetent, I ordered a scope & When I didn't receive notice that it was in stock at my local store I called the corporate number they said yes it was received and it just needs to be picked up. So I drove the 30 miles to my local store only to find that yes it was received at a store not local to me they shipped it to the wrong store. I figured that that store would just ship a direct to me and I suggested that, No that's not corporate policy They had to cancel my order before they could order another one, and then they couldn't get me another one. After at least 4 calls to corporate and escalating it past the manager level I think they finally got sick of hearing from me and finally refunded my money, first saying it would be another 7 to 10 days And then amazingly once they really got sick of me asking why it was going to take so long to refund when they charged me instantly, even before it was shipped I finialy got my refund only because I called multiple times. I know I'm just a little guy and I only go into sportsman warehouse once or twice a year and I hate to punish my local store but that level of corporate incompetence does not deserve my business.
