Today I am discussing Taichi Chaun with Sifu Gretel Quiñones.
I started practicing Taichi with Sifu Gretel in March 2025.
Sifu Gretel is an amazing instructor and person, she not only practices, but lives Taichi every day in all things she does.
Taichi is complex, it is meditation and relaxation, but it is also a martial art. Taichi is mindfulness and self awareness of how the body and mind work as one, though sometimes oppose each other as well. It helps with learning how to focus and negate the opposition that the mind and body may experience, to bring balance into physical form.
Along with practicing Taichi, we also learn Qi gong which is an ancient Chinese meditation using the body's energy and movement for healing. (An over simplistic explanation.)
I have suffered from several serious injuries in the past, as well as arthritis, hypertension, and PTSD. Since training with Sifu Gretel I have experienced lessening of my physical symptoms, which is something I was not expecting to benefit from Taichi when I first began. With continuous practice and repetition of the techniques I've learned in the short time I've been a student of Sifu Gretel, I am convinced that she has the knowledge and experience that I need to find continued improvement in my mental and physical well being.
