Very average, We were told it was going to be a "significantly upgraded Aldi-like store," it is not.
The good: They have a better produce selection than Aldi at comparable prices.
The staff are very friendly and helpful, there was an abundance of staff as well, this may have been for the grand opening weekend, but hopefully they keep it that way. It was a little busy, also likely related to the grand opening weekend, which caused some disorder but the staff was very accommodating.
They also offer more "premier brand" products than Aldi.
The not so good:
The layout is a little funky compared to other grocery stores. It may just be one of those "you need to get used to" kinda things, but it was a little counter intuitive from most stores.
Their item to item price was not as low as Aldi, but there was more selection so it didn't necessitate another trip to get everything for weekly groceries.
The Bad:
The produce was "very ripe," as in you needed to use it quick or it would be past its prime. In kind, most dairy products were within a couple days of their "best by" dates. This makes it difficult to do one stop for the week.
Their "premium brand" prices were the same or higher than standard and sale prices of the same product at other local stores.
Their meat prices were higher across the board compared to local sale items and about the same as regular prices.
Summary:
There was a lot of hype around the opening of Lidl, and it is a nice store with better than most prices, but not enough to change-up our current routine. It is not the best prices and it is not more convenient than the local stores with similar products and prices. Produce was great if you were going to use it in a day or so, but a little over ripe. Dairy was sold in quantities too large to use for our family in the time before expiration.
I'll probably give them another shot once the "Grand Opening" rush is over in a month or so, but not likely to be a regular shopper unless the prices get noticeably better than Aldi which is only a couple minutes down the road, and the second stop is noteably cheaper than Lidl even if it is a...
Read moreI usually enjoy Lidl and I have been to a Lidl in 6 different countries. In the past year, I have really noticed the product selection going downhill. It takes an act of congress to open a register to check people out and the shelves are unorganized/messy and the store overall could use a quality cleaning. Products have been drastically deteriorating and the replacements are pure junk. Pizza - they use to import quality Italian made pizzas and replaced them with nasty products. Why would you replace a reasonably priced, quality product with a cheap and nasty item? I guess the Schwarz Gruppe is desperate for a few extra dollars. Where is the Coconut & Almond whip cream? Why is it that I only have a 25% chance of finding potato wedges in the frozen section? Where are the shortbread almond cookies? I have to purchase them when in Europe as I cannot find them here anymore. What is up with the Raisin Custard Swirls being a pale tan one day and on the verge of burnt the next? Ice Cream Selection has diminished and considering the Gelato is rare to find in USA, it is getting more scarce at this location, especially for hazelnut. The list continues as I am no longer seeing the value in Lidl vs other stores. The selection and uniqueness was the driving factor for me to make a 40 minute round trip drive to Lidl. I no longer do this in the past 11 months. I am very disappointed. The decision makers at Schwarz Gruppe causing this havoc obviously do not care about quality and were likely a family/friend hire. You have become "Just another grocery store" as the special aspects are GONE! What is this Lidl reward program? I waste my time entering my number or pulling up the app to "attempt" to scan it, yet I never receive a benefit. Lidl corporate states their focus on quality and all these changes are to...
Read moreAlways a hospitable & friendly grocery shopping environment with plenty of unique bargains. Some staple pantry food. Safety 1st practiced here during these unprecedented Pandemic times! Its not required but all staff & most sensible patrons wear masks out of respect & compassion for their neighbors due to this stealth, asymptomatic virus currently lingering around. There are reasonably wide aisles to safely distance yourself so you don't have to squeeze by a fellow patron like a pretzel. Also, 6ft distance floor indicators are at checkout. Carts are wiped down similar to Aldi. In fact, a similar type of grocery shopping paradigm/ model as Aldi is at Lidl[ pronounced Lee- dul.. yes, I asked :)]. Bring you own bags or purchase them on the cheap, plastic or paper [if you are environmentally friendly]. I had a swap for a non food item, & service was quick. Lidl previously opened at 7 & stayed open until 10 pm. Wow, talk about being present to serve the customer ! Now their hours are from 8 am to 7pm and the 1st hour on Tuesdays & Thursdays are , of course , for senior citizens. Customers first is their motto. Lidl deserved...
