Rock Island National Cemetery — Local services in Rock Island Arsenal

Normally I love this place. It's beautifully maintained and in general a lovely place. But this last visit was extremely unpleasant. We wanted to visit my mom on the one year anniversary of her death. My niece even took the day off school because it's a long drive for us. My aunt was visiting all the way from Alaska to be with us on that day and wanted to come along. I checked the hours because she needed a visitors pass and they said they close at 4. We got there at 3:30 to find the office CLOSED! with a little sign saying they now close at 3! So obviously my aunt couldn't get her pass and the guards couldn't let us in. We had to turn around and go straight back home. My niece was devastated! Drove an hour there and back, wasted a ton of gas and my niece missed school for nothing....

Best maintained cemetery I've ever seen. If you can't find a grave they have an area by the office where you can simply type in the name and it will give exact directions. The only beef I have is with the mowing crew who have been known to remove flowers just hours after they've been placed. It's happened to me once. All have say is the people who works, managing and customer service is a COMPLETELY Tribune to the Famalies of the Veterans and Wifes of Veterans who are buried thier.
