Went here for our anniversary dinner last night, and sad to say, this will probably be our last time dining here. The quality of their 'prime' steaks has dramatically decreased over the last couple years and the presentation of each of my wife's courses left a lot to be desired. For our appetizer, we ordered the fried calamari. This was a decent plate, with a fair portion of meaty, flavorful strips. The bread that is served as complimentary was incredibly tough on the crust and tasted like it sat exposed to the air for a week. Our salad course was the first major disappointment. My garlic salad was decent, but then again, it's kinda hard to screw up romaine, tomato and onion thrown on a plate. I've always been a huge fan of the garlic dressing, so no problems there. My wife had the warm brussel sprout salad and it was mediocre at best. The sprouts were flash grilled and nearly raw in the middle, and they lacked the cranberries/hazelnuts that were supposed to accompany the dish. It was basically just sprouts, crumbled bacon and a bland maple rosemary dressing. For main course, my wife chose a chicken dish (I can't recall the menu name of it) that USED to be served as a grilled breast with some kind of mushroom gravy over potatoes. Last night, she took a bite and said that something was 'off'... After scraping the sauce from the chicken, we discovered that it was breaded and deep fried... like chicken fried steak almost. We can get that dish at Village Inn for a third of the price. She did however, seem to enjoy it still. As for my main, I went with the 12 oz Choice NY Strip- medium rare. Worst steak I've ever had prepared for me in a restaurant. It came out cooked a little past medium and lacked any sign of resembling a juicy, flavorful steak. The dry aging process that steak went through was almost criminal (sarcasm). I would challenge any chef in the QC area to a steak cook-off, and probably walk away with the hardware. On top of that, I could do it for about 12 bucks. I ordered creme brulee for dessert, and whomever was responsible for caramelizing the sugar should be slapped with the torch. It was very heavy handed and gave the custard a smoky, almost burnt flavor. I was highly disappointed because creme brulee is my favorite. The bright spots: our server was fantastic. They typically are down there. My drinks were expertly crafted and the ambience was perfect. But.... that meal was far from being worthy of a $148.00 bill. We've been going to Bass St ever since they opened downtown and the quality/experience has always been worth the check at the end of the meal. The last two trips though have me feeling like we were mugged in a dark alley. Good thing Whitey's was still...
Read moreMy wife found BASS Chop House online and we thought we would try their food. BASS Chop House seems like a high ended restaurant but it is not. They sat us near the bar so it was loud even though there was plenty of room in the restaurant and the wait staff was lacking. They told us our food was being plated and they will bring it out soon, if that was the case they should have waited for our food and served it to us instead of telling us it was being plated. You will see in the photo, food wasn't really plated well or in any special way. BASS Chop House wasn't busy but the wait staff wasn't attentive to us.
The food wasn't good at all and was SUPER OVER SEASONED! As you can see, we didn't eat much and it wasn't about not paying for the meal because we did. I asked for the check and staff asked if we wanted any boxes to take leftover food. We said no and she asked if we didn't like the food. We told them what we thought of the food and she offered to tell the manager, but by that time we already heard bar staff story of receiving (which is real cool but not for food a dining experience) a house and the roars from a group of guys at the bar, we just wanted to pay and leave.
I try to find at least one thing in every restaurant we visit...all over the world. For BASS Chop House it was the bread. Bravo. I slight sprinkle of cinnamon in the butter would make it perfect.
For the price...we expect a dining experience, not just getting something to eat...we can do that anywhere. We aren't closed minded and we when we are asked to come back to a restaurant, by owners and management, we say yes. We hope you can make the changes needed to make your restaurant I special to dine...for everyone. Just as easy as asking where your customers would like to be seated, would make a huge different.
High ended prices without the high ended food and...
Read moreI cant begin to describe the heartbreak that is now Bass Street. I went her 2 years ago for my anniversary and loved it. Raved about it. Everything was spectacular the food, the service, all of it. Not anymore. Not even close. They have gotten rid of theor drink menu so now instead of pages of options they have a handful of drinks and thats it. THE CRAB CAKES. Menu clearly states crab cakes with an s meaning there is more than one. Nope. You now get one single crab cake for $20. We had to ask our server for the bread basket after seeing all the other tables get one right away. We didn't receive ours until we were done with our soup before our main meal. Then 15 to 20 minutes AFTER placing our order we were told all dry age steaks were completely sold out. It was 7pm on a Saturday and you're gonna tell me you're completely sold out of your most expensive option? But why did it take 20 minutes to get that message? So we were forced to order theor regular steak. The dry aged selection is the reason we went there. Mac and cheese is $15 and is very bland. There is more bread crumbs than noodles and no seasoning at all. Just a melted cheese sauce. We had to ask our waitress if we could get refills because the only time she would come to our table was to drop things off. I dont know if its because I didn't have on a fancy dress or didn't look like I had thousands of dollars, but our entire table was treated so poorly. No attention at all, almost like it was a bother that we were there. I use to love this restaurant absolutely adored it but now I will not return. My meal was over $100 dollars tip not included and honestly I could have received better food and service at Texas Roadhouse at a FRACTION of the cost. Please reconsider if you're picking Bass Street for a celebration or a quality meal, because unfortunately they dont serve that...
