Alastor provided me with the most absolute bestest service imaginable. After ordering a vinyl record on Amazon, I received it completely damaged and used (finger prints everywhere ect) I was absolutely crushed given that I only had a few days left until Christmas and Amazon was conveniently all sold out of that vinyl I initially ordered. I scrambled to find a seller and scoured the interwebs for anyone selling what I was looking for. eBay directed me over to this business and I ordered it with rush shipping. I don’t even know why I bothered to order via Amazon but glad I did because it lead me to toad hall and my only request (which I love to do with small businesses) is request them to either write me their favourite joke, an uplifting message, or what their wish is…I asked if I could get an uplifting message for my boyfriend to cheer him up and Alastor went above and beyond including a Christmas card and all along with such a thoughtful written message! I’m over in Canada and went across the border to pick this up and excited to give this to my boyfriend tomorrow on Christmas Day! I hope to one day visit this business in person because the service I received online was the best I’ve ever received and businesses like this deserve our money and to continue thriving! Merry Christmas and a prosperous new years to the staff at Toad Hall for saving Christmas and being the only ones able to get me what I needed in the...
Read moreThe Whole Place Stinks! Hey. What are you doing? Stop reading this and go to Rockford! When you get past all of the glorious gardens and scenic splendor, you may find Toad Hall. Do not be intimidated by the beauty of the neighborhood or the majestic of their palace. Whats inside will surely cause regret, of some sort. First and foremost, the entry from the back is a multi step process. You will only know if you go. Watch your feet and leave crumbs. Anything to guide you back to your vehicle. Your hands will be full when you leave. Your mind will be recovering. The whole place stinks! It stinks like piles and piles and shelves and shelves and walls and walls and floors and floors, boxes and boxes... You get it. Everything you Hate. Books, comics Cd's- DVD's Posters, all kinds of horrible Pop Culture Treasure. Oh, and some Vinyl. So much Vinyl it stinks! It stinks like a great acid flashback:-) Um, not like I would know of course. just sayin... Anyway. I love the smell of a record store. This place smells great! In fact, probably smells better than any record store I've visited for a long time. If you have not smelled a record store for a while. Take your nose here. Bring a pocket of cash and a broken time frame.
Oh, they have way too much stuff. if you are looking for a place with nothing to offer, please do not go here.It cannot be...
Read moreMake sure you have plenty of time to spare before you visit this store, as you could spend DAYS looking through the place before you see everything they have to offer. The upstairs alone is a labyrinth of rooms, hallways, more rooms, hidden closets, cabinets, and yet more rooms absolutely STUFFED with books. The ground floor is a treasure trove of CDs, records, DVDs, toys, comics, posters, memorabilia, games, old nostalgia items, and even more books. And the basement has row and rows, and stacks and stacks, and shelves upon shelves of even more records. A vast selection is not a problem at Toad Hall. The staff is friendly, courteous, helpful, and informative. My only complaints are that the CDs are a little over-priced. At $3 each, it's easier and cheaper to stay on the Perryville side of town and get them for $1 at Half Price Books or buy-three-get-one-free at Disc Replay, without braving the Broadway and 11th Street neighborhood. A suggestion to the owners: maybe either drop the price to $2 each, or adopt a discount policy for purchase of multiple CDs? Disc Replay's buy-3-get-1-free deal might be...
