The Essex County Environmental Center is a real gem for anyone interested in nature and the environment. There is a wide array of things to see and do, that appeal to people of all ages. There are interesting exhibits in the visitor center. Situated alongside the Passaic River, there is an easily-access canoe launch point. Marked trails offer peaceful and restful mostly-level walks through wooded areas; there is a trail guide in the main Center visitor center. One path is accessible.
Visit the frog pond, and hope there are some frogs out! Keep an eye out for the butterfly tent, which is a special event. Get the e-newsletter to keep current on special programs for people of different ages; some have modest registration fees.
