So far the best tacos in the Hobart/Merrillville area.. although I have one more place to try that every raves about, so i may have to update this statement later.
El Pueblito Supermarket is the typical small family run grocery store, carrying nice array of Hispanic products from Mexico and Central America. You can't go wrong stopping here for your Mexican essentials.
Tucked away in the back behind the boxes and the counter, they are cooking up some great tacos!! We are so glad we stumbled onto this place after moving here earlier this year. Their tacos have been a staple in our rotation the past 3 months.
Pro tip:. Order yourself 3 or 4 tacos only if you are extremely hungry because they don't skimp on the portions here. Also grab a container of freshly made guacamole and the salsa de molcajete from the carnicero adjacent to the taco counter. Add them to your tacos and thank me later!!
Bonus: They make great carnitas, and good menudo on the weekends.
5 stars.. great products, great food, courteous and friendly staff, great...
Read moreThis is my second time visiting the store. When I first came here to get torta bread and steak meat the cashier didn’t say not one word to me but gave the total. So I let it slide. Today I went in again today and I heard her speaking English to the two customers in front of me saying “hello how are you doing”. So when it’s my turn to check out she didn’t say anything and had a frown on her face like I slept with her last night which is a shame because customer service is #1 definitely when you are a cashier. I won’t be back visiting because that showed me if you’re not one of them they don’t show respect so never again will I go back there!! I would rather find customer service else where than that place. I purposely go to places twice just make sure it’s not me that see the customer...
Read moreI was here five years ago for work. It was a nice grocery and restaurant. It no longer has the restaurant, and the store has gone down just like their customer service.
The low score comes from the lack of prices. It looks like this store owner doesn't follow Weights & Measures.
It's the reason I walked out. The meat had some prices, but the stock on the shelves didn't. They have a selection of salsas but no prices. It also be nice to know the shelf life of these items.
My theory is it gives them a chance to charge you according to your looks.I say this because I asked a customer who was buying a salsa how much he pays. He told me $6.49! I paid $3.49 at a store like this one last Sunday.
If I'm wrong, price your merchandise, date your salsas, vegetables and the rest...
